Private & Independent Schools
Does anyone have any feedback (positive or negative) on the Friends Community School in Greenbelt, MD?
Not directly, but I used to work at the University of Maryland and a lot of my colleagues sent children there. They seemed happy with the school.
Also curious...
I was talking to a friend who has a son that is in 5th grade there. He was saying that it is much better than it used to be, and gives a high quality education through 8th grade. It is very very liberal, though.
I don't think it's a high quality education at all. Many of the teachers are unqualified to teach, most notably first grade teachers who do not understand how to teach reading. The school's response is always that something is wrong with the child and not the school. That's what they said about my DD and many of her classmates. They insisted that we get her psycho educational testing (cost $3000) which only proved that nothing was wrong and that DD had a very high IQ. Now DD goes to one of the top schools.
PP, was your experience a recent one?
Has anyone heard from admissions at Friends Community yet? I know they are running behind... Esp for upper grades? thanks.
My experience was a few years ago but my friend had the exact same experience last year. |
