I find this terrifying. Do we never learn?

Organized by a supporter of armed attacks by the IRA, no less.

What a piece of shit this guy is.
"The fact is, the IRA never attacked the United States. And my loyalty is to the United States." So butchering British civilians in pubs and shops is fine. And now this attempt to demonize a community here. I hope he burns in hell. |
He really makes me sick to my stomach.
I am on an e-mail list from an Arab American advocacy group, and it's warning members to be vigilant about personal security right now. They are expecting a backlash from this. I hope they are being overly cautious, but you just never know. |
Hey, look! Someone's putting on a pantomime show for the angry rubes of Tea Party America! |
Keith Ellison is crying. ![]() |
so you deny there is a problem with the radicalization of islam? we have had a lot of attacks recently.
I don't like King either, but I think this is an issue worth exploring. Just like there should have been hearings (were there?) against the radicalization of the libertarian militias after Waco and Ok City. |
Yes, I deny that there is a problem with the radicalization of Islam in America. Or with Muslim-Amricans as a group. If they want to investigate radicals/terrorists and some of their investigations lead them to a specific mosque or individuals, fine. But they are painting with too broad a brush here. Interning all Japanese.... pinning Jews with stars.... Launching an investigation into those in a particular political party or religion.... can we not learn from history that this is a really, really bad idea? Also launching an investigation like this, so publicly, feeds into the Fox New hysteria about Muslims and creates fear and paranoia in the general public. And fear and paranoia lead to subtle discrimination and overt violence. Meanwhile, likely doing nothing for our actual security. |
fair points. I would rather they focus on particular mosques or individuals as well. perhaps they will. |
There is a problem with the radicalization of Christianity but we don't hold hearings because we consider it aberrant behavior. Muslims consider radical Islam to be aberrantbehavior. But some people in this country imagine that every Muslim must have some whack job cousin they know about but won't reveal. That is prejudice, and it is what is driving these hearings. |
The vast majority of recent attempted attacks were organized by the FBI. Metro is conducting bag checks now because of a plot organized by the FBI. I suggest that we have hearings about the radicalization of the FBI. Also, white Christian males. They are also pretty radical. |
