Hip pain, how to ease?

Anonymous
I just saw a previous poster posted a topic on how to ease back pain, but my hips and sides are what kills me! I'm 8 months, and all of the side sleeping is putting lots of pressure on my hips. Any suggestions???

I feel your pain. Some things that have helped me:
(1) make sure to put your feet up when you are sitting at your desk
(2) get up every once in a while if you are sitting a lot throughout the day and walk around
(3) sit on a yoga ball and do a slow hula hoop motion with your hips (be careful to do this slowly and not fall off!)
(4) do a slow hula hoop motion with your hips (not on a yoga ball)
(5) do an easy, 3rd trimester yoga video

Sometimes, though, none of this works...

Good luck!!!

As long as I sleep with my uppermost leg on a pillow (lower leg and foot) with my under leg straight and *not* under my top leg, I don't have hip pain. If I deviate from this, including following the advice to put a pillow between my legs and have them on top of each other while I sleep, I have constant hip pain.

Try this while sleeping and see if it works for you. If not, maybe another position will. But for hip pain I really think you spend so much time in bed that if that position causes the pain the only real solution is to find another position.

I should add that when I sleep on soft beds or beds with pillowtops, in hotels or other people's houses, I have hip pain after sleeping no matter what I do. I need a firm mattress to not have the pain. Good luck!

I had this really bad too. I found that putting a thin pillow on one side of my helped so that i could lay a bit more on my back but wouldn't end up flat on it.

And if all that doesn't work, having the baby will do wonders for you!

Even though we can lose most of our waist being pregnant, at 6+ mo. I still find it helpful to put a folded towel under my "waist" when I am lying on my side to give me more even support and not strain my hips. Just one or two folds lengthwise, helps support the belly when you are on your side.
