How long before actively TTC did you ditch the pill?

I am getting conflicting advice from health care professionals, so am curious what you did and/or what medical advice you received. After going off the pill, how long did it take to resume your cycle? For those who have been pregnant before, how long after did you conceive?

I took the pill for five years, stopped taking it in August, got a period in October and got pregnant that first cycle. But I've heard totally opposite stories. It's hard to tell what your Body would do of course. And hard to tell if infertility is pill related or if you would have had issues anyway. Sorry!

No, that's helpful. I appreciate it. A friend's doctor told her she needed to be off for at least 3 months (using an alternate method) before she could even TTC, which is different than what I have heard. Just wondering why you would need to do that.

I went off the pill for four months before we started trying and got pregnant by second cycle.

Took me about 3-4 months after going off the pill for my cycle to get normal again.

It depends on the person, but don't believe the OB when they say it'll be automatic and you'll bounce right back to normal. You may, but you may not.

Took me 1 year of trying to get preg, that was after 10 years on the pill, and I suspect it had a big impact on the first few months TTC, because I may have been having irregular/anovulatory cycles the whole time.

Why not just go of the pill now. That way you won't look back and wish you went off it earlier? I know it's glib...but it's not that hard to use other methods and this way, if you decide you're ready to TTC, you won't have to wait 3 months. My experience is once you decide you want a baby, you usually want it now!

I got pregnant twice the first month I was off the pill. My OB said there is no medical reason to wait to TTC, and that patients are only advised by some doctors because it makes it easier to calculate the date of conception if you've had a period off the pill.

Stopped in April, pregnant by June. I honestly thought it would take longer.

This is what I have seen as well from my research. I got off the pill at the end of June after 10 years on it, didn't TTC that first month, got pregnant in September on the third month trying. My period returned 28 days after stopping the pill, and I had VERY irregular cycles before getting on it.

about 4 months, and I used a diaphragm until we were ready to try (for work reasons we wanted to wait until a certain month to TTC) and got pg the first month I stopped using a diaphragm.

Ditched BCP in January and will start TTC this month. I decided to chart and just get a grip on my cycle after 12 years on the pill.

Stopped OCP after my honeymoon, NEVER got my period back. Ended up at an RE just to get a period, then to get PG, then to get PG again. And he said he's seen OCP-related infertility not infrequently. Good luck!

I wish I had gone off the pill sooner b/c it took some time for me to resume normal cycles and ovulation -- maybe about 5 months. I got pregnant about 11 months after going off the pill.
