Any current/former Mann parents on?

Looking for feedback. We recently moved in to the district and are trying to decide whether to go there or private. I know that many people love it, but no one in our neighborhood goes there, so I'm trying to figure out why they don't and who does? Also, how are class sizes? Also, what about "exmissions"? And the parent community? Basically, anything you can tell me!

I think almost all the Mann kids are in district, so, yes, parents send their kids there. (I'm in district, but my child is not old enough to attend.) My neighbor has 2 kids there and raves about it; one of her kids is LD and she is really happy with the extra help they give him. She says that most parents keep their children there through 6 grade and then move them to private schools, and that there are no worries about getting in to private school at that point.

bump - this is the kind of thing that makes me nervous, everyone says "Mann is great", but I can't find anyone who actually goes there!

The forums aren't necessarily the best place to get feedback b/c I think it's a relatively small group of people that read them. Try posting to the DCUM mailing list instead.

I am really interested in this as well. We are considering moving into the Mann school district with the idea that our daughter will attend through 3rd or 6th and then more her on to private. Any parents that have infomation to share would be be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

See if you can find a neighborhood listserve for your neighborhood and ask there. Do a search on yahoo groups and see what comes up.

We live in NWDC (Key would be our public) and our kids go to Private but we have many, many friends who live in Wesley Heights and send their kids to Horace Mann. I swear, they are out there! I hear great, fantatsic, superb things. Most of these families could easily afford private, too, but have chosen Mann for elementary school. I can 't give you names on this forum but, if you live in Wesley Heights, just start asking around. It does seem that fewer Spring Valley families use Mann but I dont have the numbers.

Mann is hands down an incredible school. It is very much run like a private school, small and in a very close-knit community. Having gone to a DC private school and toured many of the DC private schools as a mom, I can honestly state that Mann is as impressive as many of them. 99% of Mann students go to the private school of THEIR choice, or so I've been told by other parents who now have older children at privates.

Well, it was good enough for Eric Holder, who sent his kids there before moving them to private for middle school. I also know three other families who sent their kids there, and whose kids are now at the Cathedral close schools or GDS.

It is very likely that Mann will be ending at 5th after this year.

how does mann compare to janney?

Mann is much smaller than Janney and has higher test scores.

And Mann doesn't have a cadre of parents trying to hand over its soccer field to developers!
