I wanted to recommend a very wonderful and caring doula named Sara Baum. This doula was not with me during the birth of my son (due to unforceen circumstances), but has been with me in many more ways, that saying thank you is not enough to show my gratitude and appreciation to her. I was placed on hospital bed rest just around the time Sara became my doula and she proved to be an amazing woman/doula. She encouraged me when I was feeling down and guilty about my body letting my son down, brought me resourses regarding my condition and helped me with tips and ideas on how to talk to my doctors/nurse with concerns in my care, books to read to keep me busy and to help educate me on parenting my preemie (I delivered early), food - my favroties and some comfort food, great company (she visited every week I was in the hosiptal and emailed or sent me a text daily) and pretty much became a champion of me and my son (our family) after my discharge, during my recovery and as I continue to visit the NICU daily as we wait for our son to come home. Sara has cared for me and my family in a way I would have ever imagined anyone who we had not officially hired or worked with would do. She has remained professional, but concerned and very interested in my well being (even mentally) and progress. She is full of wonderful ideas and suggestions, without being overwhelming or pushy. Sara is the perfect doula for someone who knows what they want, but needs someone who will help let their wishes be carried through. She herself is a mother and totally understands many of the feelings and emotions you will be going through and for me, that made her the ideal candidate. She has been wonderful to me and my family and I would be doing such a disservice to her if I did not recommend her on this board, the very board that aided in my meeting her. If you are in search of a doula in the DC/MD area, you'll be getting a very wonderful one in Sara Baum. |
