Homemade pizza stone?

Anonymous
Has anyone used bricks or ceramic tiles as a pizza/baking stone? If so, where did you get them and what exactly did you use? Thanks.

I was watching Alton Brown on the food channel once and he said you could use an unglazed quarry tile from the hardware store. I might have the name wrong but I think that is what he said. They are like 5 bucks, he was saying they worked just the same as the ones you buy in the store

Try googling baking stone alternatives
The big thing is getting that temp up above like 750 degrees, makes a big difference, once you get your stone try using on the grill, most home ovens will only let you go to 550, though the ovens get to 1000 on the cleaning cycle!

whatever you buy, also buy a test kit that you can use to make sure it doesn't have lead in it.
