All Day Sickness....Help!

Anonymous
I am pregnant with #2 and I feel awful. I'm sick from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed. It's hard taking care of my 1 year old when I'm feeling this bad. Does anyone have helpful suggestions on things that may help? I'm not throwing up, but am constantly nauseated.

Sucking on things helped me (root beer barrels believe it or not), and definitely fresh, cool air. I hope it passes quickly, mine shut off like a switch right at 11 weeks.

Lemonade helped me a lot and I second sucking on things. It is different for everyone. Morning Sickness Magic (you can get it at natural food stores) is supposed to be awesome. My best suggestion is to stay hydrated. Morning sickness....day sickness will be get much worse if your body is dehydrated.

Good luck!

Preggie Pop Drops helped me out, as did cranberry juice, and ginger ale.

The other thing that I found was that keeping a little something in my stomach seemed to curb the nausea.

While eating didn't really appeal, even just a few saltines helped, as did Arrowroot cookies.

Good luck.

Oh my lord, I am so with you OP! I'm 8 weeks, and anything related to food has become excruciating. Lemonade sounds good, though. This is my first pregnancy...I can't even imagine trying to do this while taking care of another child! God bless you.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm pregnant w/#2 and have slight m/s, but w/#1 I had it ALL day long as well until 14 weeks and it was miserable.

Preggy pops helped a bit, as did the Sea Bands. They seemed to really take the edge off for me. YOu can get them at places light CVS and right aid. I agree w/the fresh air, and staying hydrated - that helps a lot.

Hang in there - hopefully this will all subside by the 2nd trimester!

Lemonade worked well for me, as long as it wasn't too sweet. Also, I found that floating a slice of lemon in the top of my glass of water, seltzer, whatever, helped a lot. Just smelling it made me feel better.

Best of luck, hopefully it will pass quickly.

i sooo feel you and M/S SUCKS!!!! i had it with my first and with this pregnancy it was way worse, didnt subside until 14 plus weeks...the only thing that helped was orange soda, bread and cheese, bagels and butter, rice, banana's, and basically letting my kitchen go to "S#%t" b/c i couldnt clean, grocery shop, cook or even open the fridge, i actually asked my mother to come stay with me for 10 days to help with my toddler and feed my husband! just remember, it WILL pass, you can do it, hang in there and i agree fresh air daily helps too!

Ugh-- I really feel for you. I was sick all day, almost every day, for the entire 9.5 months of pregnancy with my first one. A few things to consider:

-Ginger and mint (both in the form of tea) really soothed my stomach. I think you can find both ginger and mint herbal teas at Whole Foods.

-With my second pregnancy, I had almost no sickness, and though it is a long story to explain here, I am convinced that part of the reason for the extended sickness during my first was the pre-natal vitamins (PreNate) I was taking. If you are taking prenatal vitamins, maybe talk to your OB about trying a week without prescription vitamins and see if it makes you feel better. If that works, then maybe just stick with over-the-counter vitamins. My OB said that they were essentially the same anyway.

-One of my former colleagues also had extended sickness, to the point where she was nearly incapacitated. After she told her OB how crappy awful she was, the OB prescribed something to help calm the nausea. I can't remember the name of the medication, but there are definitely medicines out there for pregnancy-induced nausea.

Good luck-- I hope you feel better soon!

If this continues past the "normal" time frame...like 12 weeks, you might consider acupunture. It is the only thing that helped me. I was sick all day almost the whole time and the only thing that helped was when I finally started acupunture in the 5th month. I was pretty good from that point on until about the last month. None of the meds worked for me, phenerghan actually made things worse.

Good luck.

There was a posting very similar to yours on the old website about another gal who was looking for suggestions/home remedies/support for her morning sickness.

You might want to search that for more help.

As for me, I forced myself to go for a brisk walk (if I could, but I was working at the time so I couldn't always just go when I felt really ill).
Apples. I think it was the combination of the natural sugars and the crunching made me feel better...although mind over matter.

Good luck and hang in there. Think of it as a good thing...your body is producing all the hormones needed for your little person to grow!

Anything ginger helped me --- ginger ale, ginger snaps, ginger suckers....I even carried around a small container of ginger that I would pull out and smell occasionally. It was bizarre, but it helped.

OP here...Thank you all for all of your helpful suggestions. I'm going to the store today to buy some of these items, especially Ginger Ale. My 1st appointment with the dr. is Monday, so I will ask him for his thoughts as well.

it is so funny, ginger was the WORST for me. Sour things-lemons and granny smith apples worked wonders. I also found that eating protein/fat througout the day helped-mostly nuts and cheese.
