Hearst Playground story in Current

Did anything else of note happen? I couldn't make it as we were both running late from work yesterday and I had no one to watch our kids when it was time to go.

I'm hoping they are going to give serious consideration to the option of the pool on Van Ness behind McDonalds.

There's a new survey out as well about the plans, can't put my finger on the link at the moment. It's only open until 11/30 and I haven't seen it posted on the listserve yet either, so again I don't think they are doing a great job of publicizing the survey.

The National Park Service site was already ruled out. Hearst is the last best hope for an outdoor pool in the area.

Thrilled to know Mary Cheh is representing the thousands of Ward 3 residents who have been asking her for 8 years about an outdoor pool in the Ward.

Bravo!

Must have missed it. I searched last night and the last thread I saw about Hearst was from October.

Ruled out by whom? Mary Cheh? We already know, from DC's response to the FOIA request, the amount of analysis that went into choosing the Hearst site. Zilch.

Then let them happily volunteer and embrace the paving over of the parks in their neighborhoods, for a facility that will get used at most 90 days per year.

It's pretty revealing that Bowser was willing to throw Cheh under the bus on the Hearst pool snafu. It confirms what folks have been hearing, that the Department of Parks & Recreation is just going through the motions, and really thinks that Hearst Park just is not a workable site for a pool.

Hearst is my neighborhood, but thank you.

Except that is where one of the two pools called for in the DR master plan west of the park is going to go. Look for it to open in the summer of 2018!

If so, it's pretty likely there will be a lawsuit. The FOIA response practically assures it.

Apparently 150 neighborhood households feel differently.

The preliminary plan shows a pool that is no bigger than a tennis court, probably because nothing bigger will fit. Apparently it would be the smallest public pool in DC. It seems like a waste of money and a lot of trouble to construct a glorified kiddie pool.

And a soccer field that is slightly over half the size of the current one to boot.
