Baby hiccups

Anonymous
I'm 35 + 2/7 and my baby started getting the hiccups several times a day a couple of weeks ago. I forgot to ask the OB this past week. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Should I be worried? At first it was cute, and now I'm concerned that it's harming or otherwise irritating my DS. Any insights would be appreciated.

Mine did this EVERY DAY for a few months, up to 15 min at a time, somtimes multiple times a day!! It's annoying, but a good sign actually. The baby is "practicing" breathing, so his lungs are maturing. It's annoying (though it was cute at first...) but harmless.

Yes. All three of my babies had hiccups in late pregnancy...and during the first few weeks of their lives!

My daughter had the hiccups 5 or so times a day for months in utero and, at 14 months, still has them a few times a week. Please don't worry, it's very common.

Yes, cute and funny at first, but rather irritating and keeps you awake after awhile. The baby is exercising its lungs and diaphram in preparation for his/her entrance into the outside world.

What's really freaky is when you're hooked up for a nonstress test and you can hear the hiccups over the doppler. the nurses thought that was hilarious.

Fear not OP, it's totally normal. Mine has had them for months. At the 33 week mark they ramped up to several times a day. Now at almost 35 weeks, they're a regular part of the day (and night, oh well). Dr said they're completely normal.

Very normal.. I could even eat DD's favorite food (chocolate) and her hiccups would start on cue.. Not preggo now- and I *miss* the hiccups- so enjoy them though they can be a bit much when you're trying to sleep!

Totally normal and just wait till baby arrives hiccuping like that on the outside!
