how are their duties divided? Our elem just got a vice principal this year and I can't tell what each of them now do in contrast to what the principal did alone last year. Can anyone explain the difference?

I think it varies from school to school. Why don't you ask at the next PTA meeting?

I agree--ask at the PTA meeting. It depends on the school. Sometimes the VP might be more in charge of discipline or day-to-day issues, while the principal oversees everything. In another school, the VP might be the point person for younger grades, while the principal deals with upper grades.

oh, and if the school is adding a VP, it's probably due to increased student enrollment. Many small elementary schools only have one admin.

I would contact whoever you have the best relationship with or find the most helpful. They will just refer the issue if appropriate
