Hi, I have the worst cold ever and would like to take something to prevent this cold from becoming a sinus infection. I just switched from OBs to midwives and the midwives don't really have a non-emergency, off-peak call number, and obviously I can't call the drs at the practice I just left... Does anyone have a list of approved meds during pg that includes Afrin? thank you, thank you! |
Check out http://www.safefetus.com/
They give Afrin a grade of C. |
I asked my doc specifially, and she said No. Since it constricts the blood vessels in the nose, it can also in the placenta... ![]() |
I am prone to sinus infections. While I was pregnant I just used the plain old saline nasal spray. It was not as good as Afrin, but it did help some. I hope you feel better soon! |
Thank you everyone! I will suck it up and stick to the saline irrigation. |
Try a neti pot--may help more than just the spray. You can get them at natural foods stores or some drugstores (sinucleanse is the brand at drugstores) |
I found this link helpful in researching meds when I had a bad cold this past spring: http://www.uspharmacist.com/index.asp?show=article&page=8_1708.htm

My allergist ok'd Afrin and I reviewed it with my OB, who had no problem. The allergist said to use the Afrin and then irrigate with saline to prevent the addiction problems/rebound effect with nose spray. |
Afrin is on my OB's pre-approved OTC meds list. |
