Anyone have any idea of how many applications they received last year for K? Trying to figure out our chances of admission.
|
| Not sure how many they received last year, but it's usually in the 250 range give or take. Are you on the WL or applying this year? |
| my kid is in K. last year they only had 38 openings for the lottery i think due to unusually high number of siblings. |
Yes, my friend went on the tour this year and it was something like that last year (maybe a little less) and like the pp said, there were only 38 openings due to siblings. |
| we got in last year, there were over 300 applicants and only 18 spots available. |
Wow! Sounds like a backup plan for K is definitely in order. The 16% chance does not sound promising, especially with twins. Thank you for the information. |
| oops, meant to say 6% chance. |
18? are you sure? that's much lower than what i was told (38). |
| yes, 18 total. In our class, there were only 6 (non sibling or VPI) in our class |
| to clarify the pre k students in the VPI program at ATS get preference as well. Between siblings and VPI there is not much left |
|
Twin mom, don't give up yet. I have twins who are at ATS and there are several sets of twins in the school. Arlington County treats twin applicants as one application (they staple apps together), so if the app gets chosen they both get in.
Also, I think the 300 applications includes all siblings and the VPI students, so the 30+ spaces are for closer to 250 applicants. Last year was rare with only 18-19 spots because there were so many siblings. We are very happy there, and our kids are really thriving in the environment. Best of luck! |
| OP, what do you mean by needing a backup plan? Can't you just send your kid to your neighborhood school? |
| I think these waitlists are only going to get longer due to the baby boom in Arlington. My son is in K at a school in N. Arlington and it seems like most of his classmates are the oldest in their families which means there are many siblings coming behind them. |
