Food, Cooking, and Restaurants
| I am somewhat last minute here as the party is this afternoon. I was told to bring a platter of 'finger foods' - but some of the more obvious options (mini meatballs and chips and dip) were already claimed. I'm not a great cook so I actually couldn't really think of what else to offer... any ideas? I'll be extra grateful if it's something easy to make (or even better, easy to buy and not be too terribly obvious that I didn't cook!!) Party is for both kids and parents, so I need something that has broad appeal. Thanks!! |

Quesadillas!
Go out and grab some flour tortillas. Get some grated cheese--you don't mention how old the kids are but a mexican blend is great, unless it would be too spicy for young kids. Get a rotisserie chicken. Simply spread the cheese on the tortilla and shred the chicken in little pieces and put the tortilla on top. Put in the oven at 350 or so until the cheese melts the tortillas together. Slice like a pizza into sections. |
| What about a cheese, cracker and fruit platter? |

while it isn't gourmet we always did PB&J triangles when we were having a party that included kids. Just cut the sandwiches in 4 triangles and stack them on a plate. Basic but they always get eaten quickly. Often the adults ate them too.
If you want something more adult oriented try bruschetta - toast baguette slices and top with one of Trader Joe's bruschetta mixes. |
| Too late for this time, but what about frozen samosas (you'd probably have to give up the charade that you cooked it from scratch, but nobody will care!) and chutney? I believe Trader Joe's sells these. |
| Also too late for this party, but I sometimes buy taquitos and heat them up. Costco has lots of finger food options in its frozen food section. |
I agree that Costco is the Meca of frozen finger foods.....for next time.

What age?
Veggies and dip Cut-up Fruit Cheese and crackers (forget if that is one already claimed) Any sandwich - cut into quarters Mini hotdogs in a bun (disgusting if you look at the nutrition, but the kids love them). |
