Severe case of infant Seborrehic Dermatitis- what to do?

Anonymous
DC has this (aka cradle cap) all over her body. It is the worst on her hands, which appear raw, peeling and oozing/weeping. Been to the dr 3x in the last 10 days and I do not feel it is improving. I am putting Ketoconazole all over her 3x/day followed by aquaphor. Hydrocortisone cleared it up over a month ago and it was back within days.

Both I and my older child had a lot of skin issues as infants, but this is worse by far. The docs are pretty convinced it is not eczema. Our ped is calling a ped dermatologist Tomorrow, but wondering if anyone else has dealt with this, and if so, what worked for you.

Thanks!

I should have mentioned, DC is now 12 weeks old...

#1 didn't have it that bad, but a lot of cradle cap and a bumpy weird red rash that I'm pretty sure was SD. what cleared it up for us was the nystatin / diflucan she was taking for thrush. Worked 2x (nystatin treatment and the rash went away, when thrush came back, so did the rash. 2nd round of treatment included diflucan for both of us, and both thrush and rash cleared up for good.) Don't know if that would help you, but wanted to mention it.

Time to go to a dermatologist. Unfortunately I sometimes have acute flair ups of seborrheic dermatitis myself and have different prescription shampoos, foams, lotions, ointments. My favorite OTC shampoo is Nizoral. I use it to wash my face and neck daily in order to keep it under control. There's a prescription strength as well. An antifungal can help, too. I bet bathing your baby is a good seborrheic dermatitis shampoo once a day for a few days would help a lot. But definitely go to a dermatologist. Pediatricians don't know skin issues half as well.
