lysine safe during pregnancy?

I just found out I'm pregnant. I take l-lysine for cold sore prevention. Has anyone asked their OB about its safety during pregnancy? Thanks!

there are alot of websites out there that can tell you the classifications of the drugs, one I have used is www.safefetus.com, but I would still check with the doc to be sure.

congratulations on your pregnancy! definitely ask your doctor about lysine. on advice from my doctor, i took valtrex in the 3rd trimester for herpes - you may want to ask about that.

My fertility doctor & OB both OK'd the use of L-Lysine during pregnancy. I'm due in a week and have taken it throughout my pregnancy and had no problems. OB also said it was fine to take Valtrex throughout pregnancy, but I didn't think that was necessary to prevent the occassional cold sore. One caveat - I had to switch L-lysine brands because the one I was taking also contained echinacea, which was not doctor approved. As long as your pill is nothing but l-lysine, you should be fine.
