No one goes to the Health and Medicine forum, it is largely useless and taken over by conspiracy theorists.
This is a big deal and happened in our area and I think at least for another 24 hours or so it should be where more parents can see it. |
I disagree that nobody uses the Health and Medicine forum. I also disagree that it is largely taken over by conspiracy theorists. As such, I disagree that the measles thread should be moved elsewhere. After all, if interesting health topics were moved to other forums, the Health and Medicine forum would be nothing but conspiracy theories and nobody would visit it. I don't want to contribute to a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Okay, but the Health and Medicine forum really is a joke. It made sense when the H1N1 was happening, but after that if you google negative flu reactions I would bet DCUM comes up pretty fast, since it seemed to be a major driver of crackpot non DC urban parents posting craziness.
I guess I should have reported more obvious sock pockets and such. But I just choose not to go to that forum since it usually just ends up making me angry. |
8:35 -- just surround yourself with people who think exactly as you do. Anyone who doesn't share your opinion (or react the same way you do to a flu shot) is just a crackpot or a sock puppet anyway. Right? |
I'm fine with people disagreeing with me, but I did find some sock puppetting on one of the really long H1N1 threads. It was pretty obvious, the person didn't bother to change his formatting/phrasing, etc. And one time I posted a question and got some guy from NY who didn't answer my question but basically advertised his services, etc. That kind of thing. Anyway, my main point in posting was to say that the measles thread should be where more action is. As someone very interested in health and medicine (it is both by day job, and on the side I'm very interested in alternative therapies) who was really excited about this forum and who basically never checks it anymore, I just thought this topic would get more hits on one of the more popular forums. But since most moms are probably getting information from other mom-sites as well it is probably not worth fighting about. I've already seen the measles warnings pop up on another of my mom's list-serv, for example. |
