We all knew he would be a disaster as mayor. This city needed a guy like Fenty, the asshole to break up the old monopolies and continue to right the ship. Except you voted for Gray and his "one city" etc etc. I thought the true colors would take a few more months to show but already we see how terrible of a executive he his. And we have 4 years of this. |
Things are off to a horrible start. I'll give you that. I, for one, am not going to just sit around complaining. Gray and Brown need to understand that they walk a very fine line. Who are you supporting in the upcoming special election?
|
jsteele,
Are you talking about the Biddle / Orange election? |
in hindsight, it was amazing how competent Tony Williams was. one competent mayor in 40 years. |
There are a lot more than those two. In a low turnout election like that one is likely to be, there could be some surprises. |
Oh jeeze, I hope not. I suppose I better start whipping up some votes on my block. |
...cause it's starting to look like we're going to need all that sane votes on the Council we can muster. |
We are hanging our heads low and thinking we will never trust any politician again.
The entire situation seriously makes me ill. |
OP here. Grin and bear it and vote for Mara. Don't like him and thin he's a terrible candidate but I think the council has tilted to far to one extreme. All the other candidates want to continue our current tax and spend policies. |
I was a big supporter of Gray's mayoral run. I actually made sure people I knew showed up at the polls to vote. I admit that I am very, very disappointed in him and like poster 18:15 I hang my head in disgust. However, I still believe that he was better than that lopsided, crooked, embezelling, race baiting, race hating Fenty. I am hoping for a better slate of candidates for 2014. |
I think Fenty was basically incompetent, but how was he race-bating and race-hating? |
At least Fenty showed some enthusiasm for the job! I saw him campaigning in 90+ degrees in Logan Circle and Thomas Circle while walking to work. He was hitting the pavement and I also frequently saw him out and about driving himself about town in the Smartcar without a driver or guards. I liked his youth and the fact that he was an athlete. Gray just seems old, defensive and unenthused. There is nothing he says that holds my attention or makes me want to rally around him.
Fenty definitely has had his share of screw ups and I'm annoyed that his ego cost him the job. But being mayor isn't a popularity contest - especially when you need to take drastic meausres to fix things like dysfunctional DCPS. ego cost him the job. Gray is an embarrassment and is not the right fit for the job. |
There is a blog (http://martinaustermuhle.com/four26/) devoted to this election. In particular, you can see information about the forum held a few days ago. Unlike the Ward 4 special election when Muriel Bowser was elected, there do not seem to be any real clowns running this time, at least not among those in attendance. Five of the ten candidates were there for the whole time (Biddle, Lopez, Patterson, Orange, and Weaver. Douglas showed up in time for a few questions, and Brown and Page introduced themselves at the end. Mara and Haile did not make it. Note: I am not, nor do I know, Martin Austermuhle, who runs that blog. |
Sekou Biddle will be challenging the petitions of his most popular opponents - Weaver, Mara and Patterson. I'm seriously peeved.

Why? If they can't follow procedures, they are not qualified for public office. |
