ISO chess tournaments

Seeking out chess tournaments/playing time for elementary school-age kids -- any suggestions?

We already participate in chess tournaments through the school chess club and the US Chess Center and are now looking for others.

Try looking at the USCF website as they have clubs and tourneys listed. You can also sign up for email notification of tournaments.

I suggest checking area libraries. I just learned about a monthly scholastic chess practice at a library in Fairfax County (George Mason Regional Library); other libraries/branches may have something similar.

I'm the organizer of the scholastic chess practice at the George Mason Regional Library. I'd like to stress that the meetings at the library are NOT tournaments (as requested by the OP) but are just casual opportunities for students to play chess. For tournaments, I second the recommendations of the PPs to check the USCF and the USCF Clearinghouse web pages for more information.

Here's the info on the meetings at the George Mason Regional Library:

My daughter is interested in playing more chess (!) and is looking for opportunities to practice. To help her, we have reserved the meeting room at the George Mason Regional Library for a Scholastic Chess group (the best name I could come up with on the fly).

Link to info about the George Mason Regional Library:
http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/branches/gm/

We have reserved the meeting room for three Monday nights (March 28, April 25, May 23) from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

The intent is NOT to have a chess club (already have that!) but simply to provide a casual opportunity for those that want to play more to do so. (It’s a bring-your-own-board and here are some chairs and tables sort of thing.)

If there seems to be interest, maybe we could keep this once-a-month thing going through the summer. We’ll see how things go.
