South Arlington preschools?

Hi everyone. We're looking to move into South Arlington later this year, but unfortunately I'm not sure where yet. My daughter will be 3 in late October, and her current daycare/preschool will be inconvenient after we move. I've found a bunch of preschools online, but because most of my friends with kids live in North Arlington, I don't know anything about any preschools in South Arlington.

Does anyone have a preschool in South Arlington that they can recommend? I'm open to pretty much any location; if we found a great preschool, it might help me figure out where to try to buy a house. (I'll be commuting into DC for work after dropoff.) Full-day only, no co-op, religious affiliation is ok, and we're currently paying $1,250/month so we'd be ok paying that much again. \

The only one I know of that I would recommend is Arlington UMC on S. Glebe, but that is just a regular a.m. preschool.

If you are closer to Fairlington, St Clements on Quaker Lane in Alexandria might work. It has daycare hours.

There is a bright horizons on carlin springs road but it is kinda pricey around $1500-1600 for older kids.

I would strongly recommend that you check out the Crystal City Children's Center. My son attended the school from the time he was 3 months until he entered kindergarten this fall. I can't say enough wonderful things about the Center - and the preschool program. The Center is very small and the teachers are fabulous (some have been there 15+ years). It is a full-time, all-day school. The lead teacher in the pre-k class is a former Arlington County teacher - and that made my son's adjustment to kindergarten so much easier (knowing what the routines would be, how the learning centers are set up, etc.). He is doing very well in kindergarten and the teachers have commented on the solid foundation that CCCC students bring (there are a lot of CCCC graduates from the neighborhood at the school). Feel free to call the director, Luellen, for more information or to set up a tour - 703-979-2770. I believe tuition for the 4s class is around $550 every two weeks. Not sure about the 3s. While the Center is technically a parent-run cooperative, there are no in-classroom parent requirements. (The Center is run by a parent-run Board and managed by a full-time director.)

With regard to neighborhoods in South Arlington, I can't say enough great things about my 'hood in the Aurora Highlands neighborhood (22202 zip). We are within walking distance of Pentagon City, Pentagon Row, 23rd Street, parks, the library, etc. Oakridge is a great school and I really feel like you can't find a better neighborhood this close to the city.

Agree about CCCC - we love it there, although we're not in the Pre-K class yet. Luellen is fantastic as are all of the teachers - each of them know my daughter and always say hi to her by name. Granted its a smaller facility but that makes me feel so much better that even teachers outside of her room know her. The facility is smaller and older but the staff more than makes up for that.

My DD is at Funshine Preschool on Columbia Pike. It's a full-day program. It's located in the Arlington Presbyterian Church building, but I think they just lease the space and it's not affiliated with the church. We like it a lot. It has a laid back, family-like atmosphere. A lot of teachers have been there for many years, which we see as a big plus.
