Toddler with BELLY

Anonymous
I know it's normal for babies/toddlers to have cute buddha bellies, but I was just wondering when it's normal for them to go away. I'm not obsessing about my DD's weight or anything (she's in the normal range for her height, etc...) but it's just that her belly doesn't seem to be getting any smaller even though the rest of her has thinned out a bit. Tonight during her bath I noticed that her belly button was starting to almost look like an "outty" like what happens to a pregnant belly. I'm really not concerned about this for vanity reasons, but just want to make sure there's nothing health-related I might be overlooking.

It goes away gradually, I probably noticed some slimming in my son by the time he was 3, but he didn't really slim down until 4 - 4 1/2. It used to be that he always moved up a size when his pants got too tight, now he moves up a size when his shirt and/or pants are too short. I also think that a lot of kids plump up around the belly right before a growth spurt.

yeah, my three year old has less of a belly than he did a year ago but still has that toddler belly. he's actually pretty skinny and under the 50th percentile in weight for his height, but he has a belly. and he still outgrows pants when they get tight in the belly...although he's been wearing them under his belly alot too!

OP here. I'm finding the exact same thing with the way she grows out of clothes. I only have to go up a size when things get too tight in her belly, not when they get too short even though she's in the 90th percentile for height. She also wears a lot of her pants under her belly so that her diaper hangs out the back Glad to hear that others' toddlers still have the "baby" belly.

Agree that this is not uncommon at this age. However, my son's situation is more sever then most and we discovered it was from lactose intolerance. Drinking lactose free milk improved our situation dramatically.

OP here -- did he have any other symptoms? My DD has been burping a lot after drinking milk, and just the other day she spit up a little (something she hasn't done since she was a baby). She's also been pooping a crazy amount on some days (3 times today before 1:00!)
