Birth Control Pill when you suffer Migraines

Anonymous
I am interested if anyone knows of a BCP that you can take even if you suffer migraines with aura. I would like to take a pill to help with PMS symptoms, hair growth and acne. Have taken the pill in the past (10 years ago) but always got migraines going on or off it. Wondering about some of the newer pills. Would also like not to gain bloat weight.

Thanks in advance.

I can't name a particular pill, but years ago my OB suggested to stop taking the placebos so that I wouldn't have the dramatic shifts in estrogen that often trigger migraines. It helped a little, but I stopped because of spotting.

I was told to STOP taking the pill because I have migraines with aura because of the increased risk of stroke. I think an IUD is pretty much all I can do now - or condoms. . .

I was also told that you shouldn't take BCPs if you have migraines with aura. It increases your risk of stroke or blod clot. If you are done having children ask your husband to step up to the plate. If you want more kids get a hormone free IUD.

You can treat the the other symptoms with either holistic approaches or medically with non-hormonal medication (ie., retin-A for acne, etc.).

You may also ask your OB/GYN about the possibility of insulin resistance. Maybe not PCOS but something similar. I had similar symptoms and couldn't take BCP (I also have a clotting disorder) and he ended up putting me on Metformin and it's been a miracle drug for me. My appetite has decreased to a healthier level, no more acne, no more ovarian cysts and markedly reduced PMS symptoms. I also had a very hard time losing weight and had alot of extra fat in my abdomen. Since being on it my abdomen is slowly melting away. This has been the best part of it as it seemed that no diet or exercise would touch it and even when I was 10 lbs away from my goal weight people would ask if I was pregnant.

I don't have issues with the excess hair growth but I've been told it's very effective for that as well.

OP here. Thanks for the responses, esp the Metformin info. I would be surprised if I was insulin resistant since I have very low body fat, but who knows, right?
Will check it out. Had guessed there probably wasn't a BCP out there for me, but since it has been ages since I have been able to take the pill, I wondered if there had been any advances.

Thought about the IUD/Paragard, but after kids, period is pretty heavy already. Have heard that makes it worse.

Are you planning to have more kids? If not, have your husband step up to the plate!
