| One bed (700 sq ft), new building, rarely turn on heat and my bill has been anywhere from $100-215/month! Is this normal for DC?? Thanks! |
| That sounds normal to me. |
| Probably...Pepco's rates in the last few years have been outrageous. Our winter bills have gone up from $50/month to $250/month. |
ok at least that's normal...Much higher than Colorado!
|
| No, that is not normal for 700 SQ FT. |
| If your heat is electric, it is normal. |
| I wish my bills were that low. I average anywhere between $500-600 in the winter (rent an almost 2000 square foot SFH). |
| OP here. heat is gas, which I rarely turn on. |
| Seems a bit high. I'm in a small 1,200 sq. ft. SFH and my last Pepco bill was $120 (plus about $200 Wash Gas). The highest PEPCO bills in the summer haven't been over $160. |
| What is the temp on the thermostat? |
| OP here. My thermostat is off. I rarely turn it on because I'm on the second floor and the apt. stays warm. |
| Not normal-do you a lot of electronics? |
|
So what does run on electricity - oven? Do you have a washer/dryer in the apartment? Do you have your own hot water tank? If this is a new apartment, the appliances are probably recent, but builders also tend to cheap out on appliances, so it's possible you have very energy-inefficient ones.
Also, it's hard to compare just the $$ amount of the bill because taxes vary by locality. How many kWh per month, usually? |
| That seems pretty high. The most my gas bill ever was last year during the height of winter was $265. Of course, I had Washington Gas and not Pepco. |
PP here. The above was for a 4 bedroom house. |
