That incident occurred such a long time ago in a state that largely reveres the Kennedy family and didn't think Senator Kennedy needed any punishment for drinking and driving and leaving a young woman to drown in a car.

You are so right. He continued prancing down the pathways of life as an unconvicted felon, and we are paying for a shrine to the bum!

Let's all obsess over some kid Laura Bush killed while driving drunk! Oh, wait, that would just be a bunch of juvenile political opportunists scoring cheap political points off of a dead person's memory.

We wouldn't want to come across as sociopathic ass-wipes, so let's not.

Do you honestly think the two events are equal? Most people don't. That's why deaths resulting from drinking and driving have far more serious consequences (i.e., punishments with jail time) than other types of accidents that result in a death.

Did she leave the scene, swim a canal rather than take the ferry where she would be seen, then sneak in the back door of her hotel. again to not be seen, go to sleep, then meet with her lawyer, before reporting the incident while her passenger was still alive and died due to her negligence????

He was scum!

Who let these Loudoun county residents on here?

No, obviously not. In the one column, you've got hordes and hordes of right-wing nut-jobs, indoctrinated into the whole Kennedy-hating cult.

On the other, you've got normal, well-adjusted people who don't really waste their time obsessing about such things.

So clearly, since the only people who obsess over these issues are the nut-jobs, they're in the majority.

Could you provide a link to the driving drunk part or are you typing drunk?

There are plenty of young Kennedys around do you have a daughter or close friend you would like to hook up?

Just curious and hope you'll give an honest answer. If someone were drinking and driving and caused a death in the same manner today, do you think the same lack of consequences would be appropriate?

She just turned 17 and I have yet to see that drinking was invloved.

Ted Kennedy, a grown man who never matured, slithered like the snake he is to hide his actions, consulted with a lawyer before ever reporting anything then made sure his victim was cremated with no autopsy using all the filthy family influence he could muster.

The Shrine to the Hero of Chappaquiddick is being funded with tax dollars, not donations.

Let's do one for Charles Manson so he can enjoy it while still living.

Teddy and OJ would have been great cell mates!

I am old enough to have voted against Teddy the first time he ran, because he was totally lacking in qualifications (then I left Massachusetts). I thought his getting off after Chappaquiddick was a travesty. I thought his crumbling during the 1980 run against Carter was well-deserved.

But I also think his Senate service thereafter was a fine contribution to the country, and it is that for which he is honored. Sometimes we manage to rehabilitate ourselves.

I agree that he made many fine contributions, but how many other people have made mistakes (very serious errors in judgment or perhaps an accident) and paid dearly for the rest of their lives--either in prison, unable to get a job, or worse? Ted Kennedy got an incredible pass.
