How is Glebe Elementary?

How is Glebe Elementary? We are considering buying in it's zone but I see it has pretty low text scores in the 4th grade, expecially in math. It seems pretty dramatic when I compare it to other Arlington schools. Any thought or experience with this school that you could share?

Friends who have their dc there seem happy. I think the high number of ESOL kids are probably the reason for the lower test scores. I would say that any of the North Arlington schools are going to give you a great education.

It is not a good school. Lots of behavior issues.

Can you elaborate on that? Are you a parent of a current student?

My child will attend there starting next year and we have only heard positive feedback from our neighbors and parents at our preschool. Everyone speaks highly of the principal, the school community and the instruction.

I don't believe that they have a high percentage of ESOL students but the student body is probably the most or one of the most diverse for a North Arlington elementary.

Yeah, I don't know about the behavior issues post. I am sure there are some discipline issues, but nothing that seems extreme.

My son is in K there and we have been happy with the school so far. His teacher is great and he loves school. THey have lots of "specials" including Spanish which I think is great. The principal seems very involved and the PTA is very active. The one downside to the school is that it is growing very fast. 3 K classes 2 years ago, 4 last year, and 5 this year. No idea what will happen this fall. The school is more diverse than some of the other schools in N. Arlington, but that is changing somewhat as more white families move into the area. As far as ESOL goes, though, I think my son has one student in his class of 21 who is receiving ESOL services. If you look at the statistics, you can see that the minority population has remained pretty stable, but the white population has increased a lot. IMO, however, the diversity is a good thing!

We were in a district that switched from Tuckahoe to Glebe. It happened when my older son was going into 4th grade. Glebe has been great. The principal is so responsive to parent concerns and is very engaged with the kids. It has indeed been more diverse, with Tuckahoe almost 97% white while Glebe was 55% when we started. That's definitely changing with the increasingly crowded conditions. Crowding is definitely an issue but it is a problem with all N. Arlington schools.
