NPR Reporter looking for an interview

Anonymous
Hi:

I am a reporter at National Public Radio. I am writing because I'm doing a story about the rise in food prices. Specifically, I'm looking at how the rise is effecting people, whether anyone is changing the way they grocery shop or pay bills. I'm looking for people to interview so thought that I would turn to you all.

If you have changed your buying habits (are cutting down in some way at the grocery store - or have changed habits in some other way)and would like to talk about it please let me know. you can reach me at aspiegel@npr.org.

Thanks so much for your time and attention.

It's "affecting," not "effecting."

Thanks for the grammar lesson grammar nazi!

PP Thank you. Everytime I hear a reporter ask someone where something is "at" I just about blow a circuit. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with proofreading OCD.

At least she didn't use the word "impacting."

Hmmm, isn't effect though?
The verb effect goes beyond mere influence; it refers to actual achievement of a final result....like what actions have you changed as a result of the rising food prices, gas prices, steel prices, whatever. I thought affect was more emotion related. Don't flame me, just remembering my hooked on phonics.

OK flamers, aren't "copy editor" and "reporter" two different jobs? Anyway, to the OP: curious how your story might be different from the other recent stories on changing habits? What's the angle other than "I now use coupons"? It would be interesting to hear if the DC area is for some reason drastically different from the rest of the country due to proximity to gov't, policies, international aid orgs, foreign embassies, etc.

Personally I love NPR. I'd be happy to help if I thought I had something useful to say. Looking forward to hearing more.

Wow, D.C. really is an uptight city. Man. Chill out already!

"Chill out?"

How old are you?
Peace, man.

Was aspiegel a copy editor in another posting? Maybe a promotion? Or responsible for both positions?

Hey if this is who I think it is (Alix Spiegel) she's a great reporter! Cut her a break! And, after all, she's in radio -- the words pretty much sound the same anyway!

OK, back to the original post, there was recently a post about changing habits due to higher costs. Did you see it?

OP could write an article about people with too much time on their hands who like to argue...

I know a lot of adults who are 40ish, who say "Chill out". A phrase or a word does not indicate the age of a person. They are words, not your date of birth.

Peace out, stay cool, and keep on truckin.

"Keep on truckin'" HILARIOUS! Thanks for the comic relief this afternoon. Sorry, OP, for contributing to your thread going WAY off topic but I couldn't resist!
