| My son's birthday is today and I thought we'd treat him to dinner out. Totally forget it was Valentine's Day too (hasn't been any type of romantic day for us since it's DC's birthday instead). Are places going to be packed? Or did most people do their romantic dinners out over the weekend? And if we just go to a family-style pizza place, is there less chance of crowds? |
| Isn't his birthday the same day each year much like valentines day? |
| Busy, but you could make a reservation (or at least try). |
| It depends on what type of restaurant you plan on going to. I don't think a kid friendly place would be too bad, but I'd avoid anywhere nice. |
| I would definitely try to make a reservation. |
| I would guess that more family friendly places are more likely not to be packed. ANYTHING that could be considered a good date place will be packed. |
| It will be busy, but what time are you thinking of going and where are you thinking of going? If it is for dinner at 5:30 or 6pm, you are probably okay...if it is dinner at 7:30 or 8pm, probably not so much. |
| I think going to a family-friendly place of the Chili's ilk will be ok (and that's not an insult, I mention Chilis because DH and I have a tradition of going there on V day as that was our place when we were poor and it was a treat to go there). |
I had the same thought! |
If you haven't made a reseration, unless you go to a fast food joint, you are out of luck. Think ahead. That is why we are given brains. |
Not the OP here. But, really, was the nastiness necessary? You must be having a bad valentine's day. IF you have a significant other, I feel sorry for that person. Chances are you don't for good reason. |
OP here. I'm not sure I totally understand the issue. Yes, his birthday happens annually, like anyone else's. But his major party was a gym party on Saturday, followed by a family party with grandparents yesterday, and a preschool party today. Figuring out how to really celebrate on his actual birthday was the last on that planning list because I thought it would be the easiest.
Plus, we never eat out. But he's old enough this year to really enjoy it. So I had that thought in the back of my head, as I was furiously making sure every other celebration was worked out OK. |
| Order carry out and eat at home. Place the order early so it's ready. OR go tomorrow. |
Really, really, really? I have a SO and don't feel sorry for him but he is smart and he made reservations for dinner for tonight a month ago. Also, my birthday is today and he knows that Valentine's day always falls on Feb. 14, if OP knew this she wouldn't be having dinner at McDonalds. |
| Maybe folks are a touchy snarky because knowing whether restaurants are packed tonight has nothing whatsoever to do with having a child. They have been and will be packed on Valentine's Day! So OP, call around and see what you find. Good luck. |
