Mirena?

My doctor suggested Mirena for me as a bc option. I can't take the pill because of migraine issues. I understand that Mirena is just progesterone and the doctor says it is localized so there are no side effects (mood, acne, weight gain, decreased sex drive), but I am skeptical.

Anyone out there use it and can report on the side effects? Thanks.

Don't know why so many doctors are quick to prescribe Mirena, when the hormone free alternative, Paragard is available. I've had both, and while I prefered the no periods that I had on Mirena, I prefer the hormone free Paragard. I've had mine for almost a year now. Periods were heavy and crampy for the first couple of months, but have been evening out the longer I've had it.
