Someone at the Post has an agenda. First the gun story, now this. We get it the "Plan" is working. |
I wish the reporter had asked the DC tea partiers how they feel about representation for DC. It seems to me that anyone anywhere in the US who invokes the name "tea party" has to be outraged by taxation without representation, and our locals would be the obvious ones to enlist their help. |
Excellent point. I thought the article was kind of pointless since it focused on basically 3 people. Seems stupid to write a whole article about something that they could only find 3 people in all of DC to be examples of. |
I think it would be nice if liberals realized that a lot of teaparty folks are much more concerned with the fiscal side of conservatism and not the social side.
plus, if they realized these folks are sensible and not all racist birthers. |
In other words, they are not outraged fighters for principle, but penny-pinchers who begrudge paying for government? |
objecting to $3.7Trillion is not penny pinching. come on! so much waste and fat in that budget, and at least the tea party crowd is willing to take on defense spending too (unlike most "conservatives") |
Penny pinchers? How about being careful with money. We're already working to give 4 months salary to the government each year. Not to mention those of us who try to give generously give to our church's missions for inner city families, homeless shelters, etc. I'll be happy to match my principles with yours. |
I'll start believing the Tea Partiers when they start voting to cut the Big Four: Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and defense. Otherwise, they're just full of hot air. I bet they think we can just cut some more "waste, fraud, and abuse" and balance the budget. |
12:01, you're right, many Tea Partiers are more libertarian than socially conservative I suspect we will see some friction between the libertarian and nativist wings of the party. |
I'll start believing the Tea Partiers when they assign just as much blame to Bush for the deficit as they do to Obama. |
Most Tea Partiers that I know of do assign a lot of blame on Bush. For example, they've been very critical of TARP, which Bush signed into law. FreedomWorks, which is a big backer of the Tea Party tried very hard to stop the Wall Street bailout. Heritage Foundation, which is also very supportive of the Tea Party was equally critical of it. The Tea Party may not have really formed until early 2009, but it was brewing for years before that. Many of the vocal Tea Partiers were critical of Bush's big government spending, "compassionate conservatism." Finally, it's not just about Bush vs Obama. The Tea Party has set its sites on Republicans as well. They target (to remove from office, not commit violence against, in case someone has issue with my terminology) Republicans who are not fiscally responsible as well. |
ironic thing is that Bush's bailout made the treasury a ton of money. don't blame the second stimulus on Bush. |
Nothing remotely violent about using their websites for politics. I assume that's the kind of sites you meant. Campsites, for example would not make sense. Yes, I know it was a typo, I'm just being frivolous. |
I'm just another Gen-something who has become too reliant on spellcheck. ![]() |
That makes no cents. |
