lol......public ivy. That’s cute.

It’s a term that’s been around for nearly 35 years. Look it up. You won’t look like a moron the next time you post!

Yes, and people have been mocking the naked insecurity and sheer idiocy of the term for 35 years.

+1 I can’t think of another term that’s as cringe-inducing as “public Ivy.” [/quote]

You should compare each major and see which university is better for that specific major. I am sure you don't go to Harvard Medical School graduate of OBGYN specialty for your brain surgery. You will go to UMD Medical School graduate of brain/neuro surgery specialty.

Which has nothing to do with UMCP, which doesn’t have any professional school other than MBA.

They don’t? You should tell them to update their website in that case!

Do you see any typical professional program such as medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, or law? All I see are business and engineering.

Obviously you have no sense of humor. What’s so big deal either way. Pp was just joking I am sure.

UMCP isn’t just close, it also takes a big share of your kid’s public high school graduating class. I don’t know about your kids, but mine wanted to get away from the high school scene.

Regardless, one of my kids is there for computer science and now loves it. He got into other schools with merit aid that essentially eliminated the cost difference with UMD. I let him choose, and he finally decided that UMD has the best comp sci program among the schools that accepted him, so he chose UMCP.

Even William & Mary refers to itself as a "public ivy". Just get over it. https://www.wm.edu/about/history/coolfacts/index.php

Nonexistent?

For undergrad, UMD engineering is ranked #25, tied with Minnesota. UVA is ranked #39, tied with Notre Dame, Brown and WashU. How can you compare UMD and Brown??? Oh right.

For CS, UMD is #16. UVA is #30, tied with UChicago, Northwestern and NYU.

Sure, UMD engineering and CS are strong. But to say UVA is nonexistent demonstrates some serious ignorance. But to be expected from insecure UMD boosters.

Don't worry, UMD is a fine, big state school with a few strong programs. UVA is an elite well-rounded school with many strong programs.

Like WHAT?

Hey folks, this kid is a troll. Don't play with them.

Yes, I am a 57 year old kid. So, tell me kid, like what??

Business -- UVA 13 UMD 48
Education -- UVA 16 UMD 33
Engineering -- UVA 40 UMD 22
Law -- UVA 9 UMD 49
Medicine --UVA 26 UMD31
Nursing -- UVA 20 UMD 13
Biology -- UVA 46 UMD 62
Chemistry -- UVA 48 UMD 41
Computer Science -- UVA 30 UMD 16
Math -- UVA 47 UMD 22
Physics -- UVA 44 UMD 14
Economics -- UVA 29 UMD 21
English --UVA 6 UMD 30
History -- UVA 18 UMD 27
Political Science -- UVA 37 UMD 29
Psychology -- UVA 17 UMD 39
Sociology -- UVA 32 UMD 24

UMCP has some strong graduate programs and I do respect phds from UMCP. However, the undergraduate reputation/admission is nothing outstanding except for CS.

That’s because you don’t know much but that’s okay.

No, they are correct. When it comes to evaluating undergrad programs, UVA is at No. 4 for best public undergrad and UMD is at 24. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/top-public
