Be serious. For every Brett Kavanaugh conducting an interview there is a young Christine Blassy Ford being interviewed. The possibilities for a terrible interview mismatch rare not that remote. The ivy league is not some paragon of i virtue. It is difficult to change traditions including that crappy traditions. Get real.

Your entitlement is showing. It’s their school and system. My kids had crappy and great interviewers but I never thought entitled to trash the whole system. Wow! Anyway you are suppose to do it in a public place with people around so that is not really an issue. (Library, Starbucks ... a place a kid would normally go). But really just tell your kid not to apply and you will have protected them from “unqualified” interviewers. At graduation you can laugh at the suckers going Ivy that interviewed.

Yeah. Makes total sense. Let’s never question the establishment. That’s led to great things. Thank you Mr. Republican.

You have no business interviewing MINORS. Just because you graudated from a top school doesnt make you qualified. Self justification is embarassing.

You are really irrational. Not a Republican and not a man. But please continue in your full on rage against alumni. You do realize that without interviews it might be significantly harder for Big 3 kids to get in... no APs, no awards and unless they do travel low level sports except maybe crew, Ice Hockey and squash. It seems like your anger is misplaced. I am sorry senior year has not gone as planned. It’s very tough.

Qualified? To do what? Interview 17-18 year old kids at Starbucks to tick off a box? What exactly are you afraid of?

That a biased self important graduate could derail a child for no reason.

Job interviews have Federal Laws dictating what is legal to be asked. Furthermore, if bias is present, get ready to be sued.

The assumption is the graduate is biased and self-important, but the child is not

The poster is afraid that a person will be harshly or negatively judge his/her child, in a way that is not consistent with most interviewer's standards, resulting in a negative impact to the child's application.

Wow, this thread went to crazytown. I interview and my kids have done interviews. It’s a cup of coffee and a friendly conversation, nothing more. Good practice for the kids; helps me feel connected to my university.

Seeing as interviewers are posting statements on this forum that they are on the look out for "disastrous" candidates so that they can give the admissions committee a warning, that would seem to be a legitimate fear.

If this is your first time through, you haven't heard the stories of uncomfortable or inappropriate alumni conducting interviews. Some schools aren't training well and many people are afraid to object to inappropriate questions or requests coming from these people.

Prepare your DCs for what could happen. Read the CC threads about bad alumni interviews.

What if the kid is disturbing? Hmm. Some are.

If you genuinely think the interviewer was unfair or off, then by all means contact the admissions office and report it. That's what sensible people do. Not rant on DCUM.
