Costco shooter was a cop... and all 3 victims were unarmed

Or the gentle giant could have brained the kid.
We could be having a thread about a 1 year getting randomly killed at Costco.

Are you honestly suggesting police should not be armed? Granted, more than a few individuals among them should not be/should not have been, but who is supposed to show up with what when somebody decides to go nuts with a chain saw?

Seems rather extreme, particularly before all the facts are in.

Yes, I think that nobody off duty should be armed. What if this jackass had shot into the crowd and killed your kid? If your grandma was run over in a stampede to the door? The gun did not solve any problems. It created problems.

Exactly!!

Anti gun nuts on pretty much every thread

People with common sense on every thread. There are 3 dead people here, including a non-verbal adult who can't defend himself against the accusations of a trigger happy cop who had no qualms about murdering three people while holding a child.

So sad. Hopefully the dead man's parents will recover and be able to shed more light on what happened in this situation.

https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-costco-shooting-off-duty-lapd-officer-20190617-story.html
In a Facebook post Sunday morning, Shureih shared a photo of the family at Universal Studios and questioned the necessity of the shooting.

“Do they look intimidating to you? Did he really have to shoot them all?” Shureih wrote. “I’m posting this picture because the stories on social media have made them out to be the suspects, and the off duty cop the victim.”

Shureih said his cousin had an intellectual disability, was nonverbal and had the mental capacity of a teenager. The 32-year-old lived with his parents, whom Shureih identified as Russell and Paola French. Both were being treated in an intensive care unit as of Sunday night, Shureih said.

Bystanders say that the officer’s wife was holding the baby.

You're also crazy if you think the guy has any obligation to go "hand to hand" against a monstrous, blank-faced attacker.

Where in the report does it say that the man who was shot was gigantic, monstrous, or blank-faced? Your bigotry towards people with developmental disabilities is evident.

Even his cousin refers to the assailant as "a gentle giant". Obviously the guy was a big guy who got triggered by something and, without provocation, slammed a man holding a 1 year old baby to the ground.

Glad that innocent baby is o.k.!

Gentle giant means big, not monstrous, not blank-faced. I agree that PP is bigoted.

The cop will claim PTSD or something related to his work.

+1 The whole thing is on Costco video cameras. People will see what really happened. Not sure why people are rushing to defame the dead man and his hospitalized parents.

Meanwhile, at another California Costco, a woman and her new boyfriend were shot at close-range by the woman's ex in front of her baby, police said. Every day, another shooting. This country is a war zone.

Because some people are deeply bigoted toward people with disabilities.

Makes more sense, since firing a gun multiple times while holding a child would have been extremely reckless as to the child’s safety.

He officer’s attorney is claiming the officer was attacked, lost consciousness, and then when he finally regained consciousness had to shoot all three in self-defense. All while holding his child the entire time. Sounds like a load of horseshit.

It’s not like the kid who was killed was wearing a sign that said “I have intellectual disabilities - I won’t hurt you.” If he indeed knocked the cop down (which surveillance video will show us), then the cop saw a big dude going after him, and potentially going after others. I’m guessing he felt the need to stop this guy before he hurt others.

But, we should all wait for the video to assess further.

This guy was apparently both a gentle giant who posed in happy family pictures AND a hulking giant who, without provocation, slammed a man to the ground. I feel for him and his family because certainly he was normally not a violent individual and his aggressive behavior was out of character for him. That does not mean that he didn't attack the officer, putting a small child at risk of serious injury. Because he did.
