I would consider a splurge anything we would ditch if we were having money issues. That includes:
Gym Membership 2-3 vacations per year (beach, Disney, etc) Pest control Amazon Music/Kindle Unlimited subscriptions We are frugal in general, so these are not Safari's lol. Produce does come from Whole Foods (on our Amazon CC) but not always organic. Their quality is normally the best in general. Other items mostly from Aldi, unless Target has a cartwheel discount or Safeway has a Just4U freebie or good sale. We only have 1 car, live walkable to metro, great school pyramid, and neighborhood pool/playground. We could've purchased a more expensive house but are very happy in our townhouse for our little family of 3. |

| Good winter boots. Waterproof and also stylish for ski resort, Helly Hansen jackets for kids. Travel. No cleaning lady, had lawn service, too flaky, do it myself now. But, will spend money on travel, steaks too! But, will go to Aldi as well. I am a spending contradiction. |
| 30hr a week housekeeper. |
| Wash and fold. |
Now your on government subsidies? |
How old is your child and what are some of your trips? Also where do you get good meals from? I’m preparing to be a single mom with no support. I admire what you’re doing. |
Only if it’s a height/weight ratio. I’m almost 6’ tall but thin. Still gets me to 150lbs. Unless they adjust leg room for height so the shorties don’t recline onto my 34” inseamed legs. My splurge is my housecleaning service. |
Weekly cleaning here and we do not prep for cleaners. |
|
Weekly private Pilates lessons
Massages a couple times a month I have a terrible back exacerbated by pregnancy and breastfeeding hormones. I’m such a happier person to be around and more functional with these luxuries. |
|
Cleaning lady once a week
Dry cleaning servifor stuff that can be washed at home (ironing takes forever) Massage every month Pilates/yoga classes (I don’t pay gym memes and run and exercise outside) Good hair color Travel ( we travel a lot, but cheap). I usually find a good deals and we can squeeze Europe vacation for 4 in $2k. But again, we don’t stay in the top resorts, Airbnb or camping a lot). My youngest kid will head to college in a year and I am so happy we traveled with kids around the world. They have awesome memories and I cherish that family time |
| AVOCADO. |
| Tutors and prep classes for 3 kids who went to MCPS magnet schools and are in STEM fields now. Allowed us to not pay for private schools and live in a beautiful house that was very affordable in a fantastic area with not-so great public schools. |
We could ditch the following - Magazine subscriptions Buying books from Amazon (instead of borrowing from library) Maid service from 2 times a week to once a week Eating out from three times a week to once a week. Things like organic food, lawn service, lawn treatments and home repair/maintenance I would keep. |
| Once a month cleaning. Eat out with family 1 week. Car wash vert rarely. Damn, I am frugal! I’d love to be the pp with the long frugal list above. The frugal thing I really wish I could do is sew my own clothes. |
