PP, please state whether or not you live in DC. 12? Really?

I guess my point is, that if I have to ask these questions, I'm going to tell my kid not to go. If a parent is going to be serving alcohol to minors or not supervising the party do you really think that they'll say that? "Oh, Harold and I are putting 3 kegs in the backyard for the kids and then we'll be running out to catch a movie"

You have toddles right?

I have teenagers. And I was once a teenager, myself.

I know people who’ve put 9 year olds in Ubers in DC in a pinch. The fact that you have the driver’s # and can track the ride on your phone... I don’t see how this is less safe than kids walking on the street alone.

Not in practice. My 16 year old and all her friends Uber together all over the place. I have let my daughter Uber alone, but when that happens I require her to use Uber black and call me when she is in the Uber and tell me she is on her way home. I also make her use the Life360app.

Yes, really. We moved to DC from another metro area. He used Uber/Lyft there, and he uses Uber here. Again, I maintain pretty careful watch over the car’s movements, but he still gains confidence and a sense of independence. He’s learning to be aware but not afraid, and it’s great.

That's pretty sad that you cannot pick up your kid or make arrangements for someone close to them to pick them up. I'm surprised that the drivers will pick up young kids and take the liability. If you are too busy to parent, don't have kids or so many.

I don't even let my 23 year old female take one home from college (25 minutes away). You are letting them get in a strangers car with a stranger. Why would you do that? Don't you know about all the uber assaults?

+1

Assaults by Uber drivers get reported in local media but I haven't yet seen any major media outlet do a larger look. It's past time. I also would not let my teen daughter use it.

Google Uber Assaults women. NYPost and WAPO and many other newspapers have done stories. Anyone who puts their young daughters in a strange car with a strange driver is a fool. https://nypost.com/2017/11/14/2-women-sue-uber-alleging-sexual-assault-by-drivers/

I'm really sorry if you think that drinking parties are mandatory for HS teenagers. Because they absolutely are not.

Would you let your 23year old take a cab?

Too bad they don't have a company with all female drivers. I would pay extra for that.

Lyft seems to be a much better choice.
