Janney has many brown or black skinned kids. Lots of IMF and World Bank families go there too, hence the international crowd. Many mixed race kids as well. My kids are not the only non white kids in their class. |
No reason to bicker about this - check the 2014-15 equity reports http://learndc.org/schoolprofiles/view?s=0254#equityreport Janney (693 students): Black, non hispanic - 6.8% White, non hispanic - 73.4% Hispanic/Latino - 8.5% Asian - 3% Native American/Alaskan - .1% Multiracial - .8% Obviously these are school-wide and the racial and ethnic background of each grade and class will vary. |
If late model expensive vehicles with low numbered DC license plates are any guide, then yes. |
This is what most of our friends do. We are at a public and I don't think that they get anymore "diversity" for the $30K+ price tag. We thought about private but did not want our kids to spend too much time in the ivory tower of wealth. At least in public school they get a bit more socio-economic diversity and will get even more when they go to middle school. |
You sound either uninformed or insecure or both. |

| Wow good question. Hearst is suitably upscale and diverse, I would also consider Shepherd and Cleveland ES. |
| Sorry this is such a white lady answer but three of my middle class/striver AA friends have sent their kids to private - Maret and Lowell. Don't think they qualify as wealthy however. One kid households. |
OP is asking about AA - African Americans. There are not "many" AAs at Janney. |
| There are tons at Shepherd. As with affluent populations of any ethnicity, there's a bit of a peer pressure scene. |
| I think that people who would recommend Janney or Murch are off their rocker or maybe they didn't understand OP's question |
| Definitely Shepherd and then Deal. |
Peer pressure scene? If you're at Shepherd, can you say more? My kid's at Shepherd and AA but in an early grade, so I haven't noticed this. |
