That may be the Holy Grail, but my experience was that most parents were more relaxed during the STA/NCS process, understanding that the hardest part of getting in was landing a slot at Beauvoir. |
|
and what exactly is your experience, pray tell?
|
Not the PP, but I can tell you that we hardly noticed our DDs transitions between Beauvoir and NCS. There was very little uncertainly and the Beauvoir outplacement director took care of the process. Much, much less stressful than PK admission. |
Hence the obsession with Beauvoir. Which I understand. |
I understand that Beauvoir and St. Albans are such separate entities. If so, can someone please explain why or how Beauvoir retains such control over the process and who gets in? |
They are separate entities like a big brother and a little brother are separate individuals. But they're all part of the same family. It is understood and expected that big brother will look after little brother. |
| You are crazy if you think that Beauvoir hs ANY say at all to who St. Albans admits to their school. There has been plenty on boys form Beauvoir who did not get into STA |
According to the current Head of Beauvoir (where we currently have a child) in her State of the School Address, that is not true. The majority of Beauvoir students (app 60-70%) end up going to STA or NCS. It is true that some do not make it but I would not decscribe that number as "plenty". Some also do not choose the cathedral schools after they leave Beauvoir. Some are also encouraged not to apply. In the last couple of years only a very small number (something like 1 or 2 but I forget the exact number) of students who appled to NCS ot STA from Beauvoir did not get in. |
I actually think the 60-70% figure is low, at least based on what I've observed the last 2 years. |
| I am not saying saying the boys from Beauvoir do not get into STA. What I am saying is Beauvoir does not tell STA who to take. STA makes up there own mind about who gets into their school. Of course Beauvoir will recommend other schools if needed and even recommend not applying if STA is not a good fit for a certain boy. |
| Not sure where the 1-2 boy number comes from as quoted above from a PP of boys not accepted from Beauvoir to STA. Last year between 6 and 8 boys did NOT get in from Beauvoir to STA. The number cannot be exact as some claim to have pulled their applications and no one knows for sure. There are also some boys who did not even apply at all. And then there are at least 3 who were accepted to STA yet chose to go elsewhere. |
| And there is at least one set of parents of a boy from Beauvoir from the past few years who strongly believes that Beauvoir was the reason they were not accepted to St. Albans. They went all around saying their son was not accepted only because Beauvoir whispered unfavorable stuff to St. Albans. Who knows how much sway the current school has, whether Beauvoir or anywhere else?! |
Please read my post clearly before disagreeing. I got the stats when I attended the State of the School address by the Head of School earlier this year. That number is from the number of applications, not from the number of boys in the graduating class. As I stated in my post, some people were encouraged not to apply, some did not want to apply. Of those who did apply, only a very small number were not accepted. I did not comment on the number of boys who were accepted but did not attend. |
You are naive to think otherwise. Of course Beauvoir has a say. Do not let the Outplacement Director's youthful and sweet demeanor fool you. Her sole job is to get as many Beauvoir alums into NCS/STA as possible. If, by chance, that is not the first choice of the parents, she will use her Jedi-like powers to get you into Maret or GDS or other comparable. |
You are calling me naive to assume that the almighty Saint Albans would not allow small little Beauvoir (the little kids school) to TELL them who they should take. You my friend are the naive one if you think that Beauvoir has that much pull that they can place their alums anywhere they want. I am not saying Beauvoir will not outplace their students to the best schools possible, but I think that any school would take exception to your claim that Beauvoir tells them who and who not to take. |
