Financial aid "dried up"

Shouldn't be hard to figure out what school.

I do feel very fortunate and extremely grateful to people who contribute to FA. I feel this way because I realize that without the generosity of others at the school my child would not be able to attend a school that cost $35,000 a year. We pay part of the tuition but there is no way we could afford the entire tuition. My child's alternative would be DC public schools but we are nowhere near upper northwest and the neighborhood school my child would attend is awful. I hope you do not let one ungrateful FA brat spoil something so wonderful for the kids and parents of those who are truly deserving and very appreciative.

Lets face it. $1200 per year is $100 per month?!! Get real
Either way, your post is nice. A poor person who knows it is time to get down down on her knees.
How is a child who goes to Europe any more of a brat than the rest of the kids at the school?

Wow! You really are a bitter bitch. For many people, that $100 does make a difference. Anyone, who thinks $1200 is peanuts really shouldn't be asking for aid. DCUM has reached a new low when someone showing appreciation for the generosity and sacrifice of others warrants a personal attack. It is time to take that chip off of your shoulder.

PP 100.00 a month may not be a big deal to you but it is to some people. That is "real" perhaps if you are ever forced to step into the "real" world and out of this FA cushiony bubble you are in, you would get a clue. I do not consider myself poor, actually I feel very fortunate because my family is happy and my child loves their school. I am offended by your comment about me knowing it is time to get on my knees. You are a complete asshole and a dumb one at that! BTW the brat I was referring to is the parent not the child. If this is the same person, I surely hope you are figured out and the rug comes sliding out from underneath you. Then we will see at that point who will really be on their knees! You are so undeserving of anyone's generosity.

Put down the wine, lady. Maybe a breathalyzer test should be required before you're allowed to type. What an awful post (well, to the point it's understandable).

Undeserving? How can anyone be deserving enough!!
Face it, these schools say they provide diversity. Most parents look for that because they do not want their kid to grow up in a bubble that is soo obsessed with money. The bubble the school provides is very very obsessed with money.
The FA kids are there because by offering discounts on tuition, they are able to still make some money instead of no-money. There just are not enough kids to fill in the classes at full price, even if there were, the school would then not be offering diversity any more. Either way, these schools are not poor.

so you feel entitled to financial aid so that instead of paying for tuition you have that $1200 to spend on the ticket alone not to mention incidental expenses which again push this cost much higher than you are reporting.

A visit to Europe when you can't afford tuition is wrong. I don't care who lives there. If its that important, than choose free public school and trips to Europe. NO you can't have both when you have limited means.

Yes I feel entitled to financial because I qualify for it and because I get it.
My kid does fly to Europe and that is none of your business. He gets to live and experience another culture as well for just about no cost. He is just a regular kid and we really do have both.
And my kid will compete with your kid when it comes to scholarships and places at the top universities. He will compete with yours when it comes to employment and internships.
And you will not see me begging for food at the traffic lights, we even heat our house in the winter. The public school is as good as it can be, but I chose private for the same reason you did.
Life is as good as it can be. I love my job
I do not have 2 jobs and have no desire to hold down 2 jobs. I need to see my child as well to be a good parent. You really do need to give them more than your wealth and absense. But since we do not have wealth, providing them with our absense will do no good.
What I do with my money is not your business and there is nothing you can do about it

It became "my business" when you applied for and received a handout. That's what happens when you take aid of any type. It becomes the whole school's business.

And I agree with a PP, wait until you get that letter that says "sorry we can't give you as much this year"

Why gloat over receiving financial aid? Be grateful and move on. Remember just as this aid is discretionary; a change of fortune, or new breeze, could easily alter this circumstance in future. Easy come ...easy go. I'd remain humble in your circumstances.

I have seen several posts linking FA to diversity. Generally, when people think of diversity they think in terms of race or ethnicity; however, for many private schools reference to "diversity" may have nothing to do with race or ethnicity and instead their idea of diversity may refer to "financial" standing, religion, social class, etc. At our school, all of the "middle class" families that I know that receive FA are white families. Just didn't want people to think that diversity equates with something that its not.

Has anyone heard of universities and colleges? They give financial aid to whom they choose, and the recipients do not have tell the entire college what they do with their money
What is new? The stupid pay
Anonymous
Are you suggesting "the stupid pay" full freight as in people are foolish not to apply for finanical aid, or that only super qualified candidates get in with financial aid packages?
Anonymous
I am sure the rich pay full freight for hotel rooms and airline tickets. Why even look for financial aid or discounts?

Times have changed. Humility is the new sin. Pride is a virtue.

No, not really. They actually just use formulas and derive info from all the financial info that you provide during the application process. If you want more money than the formula gives you, then yes, you have to provide even more financial info to the actual school itself.
