Ok, well by your logic, then neither does DCPS or, really, any school anywhere. |
Deflecting won’t help your stance, substance will |
You are not making any sense. By your logic only a floating school that relocates daily or has outposts in every neighborhood in DC provides equal access. That is your argument. Because charters provide the literal definition of equal access. Every kid has an equal chance to attend regardless of where they live. Contrast that with JKLM, Deal, etc. |
Pick a lane. BASIS is about as centrally located to mass transit as it gets. And yes, some schools have higher academic and promotion standards. You and your ilk continue to argue that's "not fair". You fundamentally misunderstand the argument many of us are making - the reason to choose some charters is precisely because they impose standards. |
| The practical way to achieve that would be every single school becomes a lottery only school and provides busing. Which would go over like a lead balloon. |
Every school does provide bussing. Free bussing with a citywide network of interconnected routes. Along with free metro. |
Yeah this. That's why BASIS works. I do think Latin is kind of hard to access. |
You're the crank who is constantly posting about how Latin is actually a horrible school, right? Yeah, no one is going to take you seriously. |
No I am not and never posted that it was a horrible school. BTW you are talking to multiple posters on here with this thread. I did not post the initial one saying Latin can’t meet the needs of advanced kids or the responses following that. But not one Latin family here can give any substantial example of how the school can meet the needs of advanced high performing kids?? |
It doesn’t really seem like any Latin families are responding at all. |
Latin families never post to these threads because they are happy with their school situation and don't feel the need to defend their school. I feel like they don't even frequent these forums because once they got into Latin, they were like "cool we can stop caring about any of this" and then they do. I'm not a Latin parent, I'm speaking of the ones I know. I don't think Latin is like the best school on the planet or even in the city, but I think it hits a happy medium where it has a relatively laid-back culture that is still college-focused and with reasonably high academic expectations. The families I know there just seem content and unpanicked. For me that is the most desirable thing about it. There are other schools in DC I am interested in, but so often I see people posting angsty, stressed, defensive, or angry things about them on here and I don't really get why. Latin somehow manages to float above this which I think is telling. Impossible to get into though. And we have an only so it's a one and done shot for us. |
Yes they are responding such as the college admissions but no response as to any specific examples of above so the assumption is none. |
It's kinda obvious though from the college admissions, isn't it? Schools and parents can claim anything they want but the proof is in the college admission pudding. |
Exactly. Crickets from Latin families. They are happy with just average. |
If elite college acceptances aren’t proof, why don’t you provide a substantial example of how they aren’t meeting the needs of advanced students. |
