DP, weighing in to say this is a very good suggestion. Our DC was depressed, sullen, hostile, and occasionally (scarily) enraged in the months before diagnosis with type 1. High blood sugar (which is a permanent state if the pancreas fails, ie type 1) causes a whole host of terrible emotional reactions.
The lack of growth could be a symptom too.

It’s probably not that but if it hasn’t been checked, please rule it out, and soon. Note that 85% of new cases of type 1 have no family history (ours included), and the most dangerous period is just before diagnosis.

Regardless, your child is in a state of serious dysregulation. When that happens the prefrontal cortex goes offline, which is why discipline and consequences alone cannot solve this.
