PP here.. also, Cary, with its issues, is rated high for best place to live and retire. I don't know that I would like that area, but on paper, it does seem appealing for when I'm 75+. https://www.travelandleisure.com/cary-north-caroline-best-place-to-retire-usa-for-weather-affordability-11715452 https://www.wral.com/lifestyle/cary-apex-americas-best-places-live-2025/ |
Same. ~PP in MidCoast Maine |
France/Denmark poster here. Our possible choices are based on having a community of friends/family in those two countries, as I would not want to retire someplace where I do not know anyone, and is not based on approval for their immigration policies. That being said, I'm not sure that "treating migrants well' is something the US can boast about right now, given that ICE is deporting law abiding people who have lived in the US for decades, who have applied for asylum and/or been reporting to immigration court regularly as they were told, only to be sent away one day without notice--and possibly to some random country. |
Staying in Southern California. Property taxes are low if you’ve been in the house for a while. Most of our necessities are within a mile or two from the house. Close to good healthcare. May spend a summer month or two in New England where we have family but not interested in maintaining a second home there. |
My parents and 62 yr old sister still live in SoCal. They bought their condos over 20 years ago so their property taxes are super low (Prop 13). But, everything else is very expensive. I would move back to CA if I had a ton of money, but as it is, that's not happening. I lived in CA for 40 years. I wish I could go back for the weather. |
Huh? The similarly sized economies of the United Kingdom and France were the second and third largest economies in Europe during this year, followed by Italy and Spain. |

No. Older people are more vulnerable to heat illness. You will also want to stay in the air conditioning instead of going outside for a walk. I am 68 and hate humidity (like I always have!) |
I retired just before turning 52. DW has a few years left before retiring. We really have no reason to move (currently in Fairfax Co), but the city of Lancaster, PA would be on our list if we were to consider a move. |
Where can you stay in Coastal Maine for a month, without paying mucho dinero?
(Even average hotels are $3-400 a night!) |
We are retiring right here in northern Va. with ageing you need more and specialized med care, special services, entertainment, etc. also difficult to start new friendships etc. |
Yeah, no. Hate the cooler weather, love the warmth. |
+1 These posters who hate Florida are just ridiculous with their made up stories. Of course there's excellent healthcare in many parts of Florida, including those that you named. |
So little imagination. If we wanted to stay close to where we lived why move at all? |
Shhhh don't tell them....let the ignorami please NOT join the millions who have moved to Florida in the last 5 years alone ![]() |
