So so sorry to hear this news. It looks like Washington Episcopal School is still accepting applications for a few grades.

public

Thanks assh#le. Some of us are in shock and grieving. Please don’t come on this forum to just say unhelpful things. There is a reason that some families had their children at SSFS vs public.

Ok, so you are too good to put your kids in public. The financials of this school were disastrous. Loans, overspending, etc....not a surprise at all. Public is an option, its not that you don't have a school, you want a private school and the announcement came in late so its hard to find another private spot.

It’s not about feeling “too good” for public school at all, I’d honestly love to consider it. But the boundary study placed my daughter in a 2/10 rated middle school, and that’s a really tough pill to swallow when it comes to her education and overall development.

The timing of the announcement definitely made things harder, and now we’re just trying to find the best possible fit for her at the last minute.

Many of our kids are at low rated schools. It comes down to the teacher and you can supplement with tutoring.

I agree that Washington Waldorf would be a very values-aligned choice for SSFS families.

I am very familiar with both WWS and SSFS and they are very different schools and cultures.

SSFS focused on every student having a place and a voice as a central core of its pedagogy. WWS is focused on Waldorf and Rudolf Steiner as its central core. Do your research.

How will they remain open and for how long? Do they own the land where the adventure park is located? If they don’t own the land or lease it from a separate entity, at some they’ll also close when the whole parcel changes ownership.

I mean bathrooms are closed and fights are very common if your kid needs a certain kind of environment to succeed I get why you would go private.

Why is everyone so eager for the kids to go to public school—not as a suggestion, but almost as a form of lore, like a way for them to be humbled? I’ve noticed this on a few threads.

Sheridan has openings in several grades.

Its so sad for the kids - especially the HS ones - to be torn from this lovely school, their friends, and the whole community, with no warning or regard.

I hear you but crossing our fingers for a good teacher isn’t a solid plan. With national team training already taking up a huge chunk of time, the idea of layering on tutoring just to survive a weak school setup feels like setting them up to fail. We’re not asking for the moon, just a school that can do its actual job.

I can’t imagine the stress that teachers who also have kids at the school are going through.

Because public school parents and soured former private school parents troll our forum. Just ignore

Same, and it reads as dismissive and privileged. Going to private school doesn’t automatically mean you have money to burn or dislike public on principal. I’m glad for anyone whose zoned public school is strong and serving their kids’ needs! But that’s not everyone at all times.

Regardless, having to split from your friend group and completely rethink how you’ll spend middle, high school, etc. sucks and I’m so sorry for everyone at SSFS now.

We have loved Friends Community School in College Park for our daughter. Outstanding school. It might be a good fit for the K-8 students.

Our child chose FCS over SSFS for middle school and it has been a great experience. We wanted a Quaker school so it worked for us as parents.

FCS is a risky choice. Did not have a good experience there. Teachers were... iffy.
