I am not cut out for Costco

People don’t work in Gaithersburg?

The Gaithersburg Costco is generally more hellish than the Wheaton Costco.

My experience too. The Gaithersburg one seems to have a lot of East and southeast Asian families who shop together. And by together, I mean grandparents, parents and three kids. It’s hard to maneuver around all of them.

Same behavior, just different ethnicities in Wheaton, DC, and Beltsville.

I am a basic white American mutt, and I do exactly this when we go home to visit my parents in my hometown. My kids love to take their grandparents to Costco -- it's possibly their favorite multi-generational outing and then everyone gets hot dogs and soft serve at the food court.

10000000%. years ago 20/20 or one of those news magazine shows did an entire show about this.

You pay more for the headache that is the costco experience.

Even if it was a slightly good deal I don't want to pay $3 for a lot more berries than I can eat and then throwing half of them away when they get moldy. I'll buy the smaller pack, spend less, and have no waste.

I love Costco very much. I can buy clothes & food every weekend. I tried to go as soon as the store open. Otherwise, we can not find parking & too many people. Price for clothes is reasonable when on sale ending .97
I normally go to fairfax or Arlington. They are the nearest stores. I wish that I purchased Costco stock 20 years ago. I am member of Costco more than 25 years. Unfortunately, I did not understand the stock market until recently. It would be cool if they teach saving/ investment in high school 30 years ago.

DS works there, a few streets away from us in Wheaton. He loves it.

Yeah. That's one of the downsides to Costco. They don't abuse their empoyees enough. They could lower prices by matching competitor practices.

Costco even closes on major holidays. That's lost retail.

How big is your family? We only have 4 people and have no trouble eating 2lbs of strawberries.

Hate, hate Costco. Reminds me how gluttonous people have become. Who needs a gallon of cashews or a pallet of crappy processed croissants? And piles and piles of cheap poor quality clothes

my favorite is the Kirkland chocolate covered almonds

These are so good that I can’t have them in my house anymore.

I kind of agree with the gluttonous part. Families forever have survived without all this bulk foolishness. So you saved a dollar per pound on ten pounds of chicken breasts, but you need a deep freezer to store the chicken. Where is the savings there? I do think Costco has quality items, though I don’t know about their clothes? They aren’t designer clothes, but I’m sure they are probably fine.

What turns me off of Costco mostly is I simply don’t enjoy shopping there. I can’t think of a worse way to spend a weekend morning than in a Costco.

I shop at Costco weekly and don’t buy any of this stuff. I buy produce, dairy and meat we consume regularly. We are all thin. I posted my shopping list earlier in the thread.

I think it’s best for someone with a SAH or PT working parent. I go Mon-Thu before 3pm only.

I hear you OP. We joined Costco, and went on a Sunday morning for our first shopping trip. The lines were enormous and we couldn't find most of the things on our list, and the parking was a nightmare, and we ended up cancelling our membership the very first day. I'm sure that there are many bargains at Costco, but I'd rather pay a bit more and go to the grocery store 5 minutes from my house that doesn't raise my blood pressure. Plus their online delivery is crap. We had ordered 2 items and both arrived broken, and Costco wanted us to wait around for a 12 hour period when their delivery person could pick it up.

Family of 5 but everyone has their favorite fruit. Not everyone likes raspberries or a crate of peaches for example. I've had bad experiences with Costco produce anyway so I don't need their 2lbs of sour strawberries.

That gallon of cashews lasts a looong time here.

Vegans, probably.
