What do you do, how much do you make, and how'd you get there?

Well, when you were a child latch key kids were the norm, and kids free ranged with other kids more.

Now you have to have kids in SACC for hours, and they miss out on team sports and other opportunities.

How much did your parents even see you? I guess if you are a teacher at least you can leave by 4pm every day?

Different poster, but my latch key/free range childhood was fantastic - the hours after school to crank my music up, watch whatever I wanted on TV, and be able to do my homework in peace was my favorite time of the day. My parents were blue-collar small business owners and couldn't pack up and leave on a set schedule, and I was expected to have dinner on the table when they got home from the time I was in middle school. We ate dinner together every night, were together on weekends, and, if the business was really busy, I went back to work with them after dinner and helped. I was responsible for my own school work and was very involved in extracurriculars, and I rode my bike to get to practices/games when no one could drive me. It also fostered independence, so, by the time I got to college and was out on my own, I wasn't whining all the time about how hard being an adult was. I feel bad for the kids who are overscheduled and stuck with their parents breathing down their necks all the time.

Well today your parents would have CPS at their door for having a 7 year old home alone.

Of course middle schoolers are home alone, though where did you live that biking to sports was feasible? That’s pretty rare in modern America.
