But I don't think that will change admission rates - it could increase as those kids now need to increase applications..

I wonder what would happen if

1) applications worked more like a ranking system. Applicants rank schools (blind to schools) and schools choose applicants - then you get into the highest school that accepted you on their list.

or

2) ED occurred at the same time as RD. You apply and can choose one top choice. If you get in, you go. If not, you see what else is left on your acceptance list.

There would have to be some cutoff to the number of students that would get into each school. So then schools would have to rank the students?

Cap it for schools. No more than 10% of a class filled with ED.

But why? Why not let more of the school be filled with kids for whom it is their very first choice, their dream school. Rather than kids for whom it was only a safety.

- especially with regard to excluding many qualified Asian applicants.
