We would have left for Walls for our younger kid if had been admitted (despite a high GPA). We stay because we don't have a better option and the friend situation is good. You must know that even with the performance bonuses, BASIS can't match DCPS pay.

Whatever. The HoS gets very high ratings in parent surveys. So, you are in a small minority.

Pay isn't everything. That is why DC has the highest urban teacher turnover rate in the entire United States.

Good pay doesn't hurt.

Source for his very high ratings? Please post a link to a parent survey where high school parents rate him highly.

Many of the 11th and 12th grade parents can't stand him (we are indeed a minority at BASIS). MS is essentially all laid out for BASIS families: there are hardly any choices. Dealing with him when the choices are more plentiful and higher stakes can be a real drag. He's a control freak and not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Troll alert. They provide that information to Basis parents. Either you aren't a Basis parent or are completely clueless.

I 100% believe there are people posting in this thread in the hopes of minimizing how many people accept their basis spots, so they their child has a better chance

You sound like a sycophant. PP is correct that the HoS is more popular with middle school parents than high school parents. The ratings don't provide granular data. I'm not seeing a conspiracy here.

Exactly.

The HOS is pretty universally hated and the teachers get low pay and have no contracts. They are told extremely frequently by the HOS that that can be fired at any time for no reason whatsoever. They jump asap.

HoS doesn' set pay. HoS doesn't isn't the one who decides contract length. Just like any employee without a guaranteed contract they are employees at will BASIS attrition is in line with teacher attrition in DC.

I don't love Alex. I think he has a lot to learn about leadership and how to support his team. Sadly, nothing you posted makes any sense in the context of Alex.

Oh he's found ways to be detestable to MS parents who were fully ready to be sycophants.

This anonymous shitposting sure is distasteful. If you don't have the balls to say it with attribution, perhaps you should check yourself. I, for one, perceive the HOS to be very hardworking, and he obviously cares a great deal about the school and the students. No doubt he runs a tight ship - but from a parent's perspective, I really appreciate all of the information/many updates and granular detail on how things are going.

I’d love to see BASIS teacher retention compared to other more similar DCPS schools instead of DC wide but I don’t think retention data is published for individual DC schools. I do know that teacher retention at high performing and/or application schools is much much higher than BASIS. What BASIS does much better than DCPS though is filling mid-year vacancies quickly and having a real plan for long-term subbing for things like Maternity leave. They have to since BASIS doesn’t use an external sub pool. I am shocked that DCPS doesn’t have a mechanism to hire content expert long term subs. My experience is that many leaves of absence (like maternity leave) are left just to the regular sub pool (and subs get paid crap with no benefits). Since DCPS has better benefits for leave than BASIS more teachers use leave in DCPS and getting stuck with essentially “babysitting” subs for 8-16 weeks of long-term absences can feel as bad as the school having high teacher turnover.
