They are ignoring it, and other media outlets are ignoring it. Why is that?

Because we are all tired of the BS and gaslighting! No news outlet is more sympathetic to the Jewish community than the NyT. And NO ONE fills out a crossword that way, no one! This is just stupid and hysterical.
And you know what?? Try giving a cramp about the Palestinians living under apartheid and being subjected to atrocities by the Jewish community before you keep panhandling for sympathy. Show up for the Palestinians!
If you are for YOURSELVES ALONE WHO ARE YOU right???

You're right. It would be so much better for us to be entirely dependent on you for our security. We can trust you 100 percent with our families' lives. Because that always worked out so well before and you clearly show yourself to be an unbiased student of history.

So, just to sum up - if I understand you right, you are an antisemite, and that's why you think that others' antisemitism is also fine. Because Jews are bad, and have it coming.

Except you don't see yourself as antisemitic, despite calling on a handful of antisemitic tropes in your post, so it's also just Jews being weirdos again and for OURSELVES ALONE for noticing your troubling post, or something (what's with your all caps?).

This. Tired of people who look for PC arguments everywhere. it's a PUZZLE

If there is a five-letter horizontal word in the upper right corner, there has to be a five-letter horizontal word in the lower left corner. This kind of whirlpool pattern is pretty common, and as others have said, it was an extra-large Sunday puzzle, so any “shapes” would be more defined. I see a flower when I look at those, and I was more peeved about the inclusion of non-words like “Halloweekend” than whatever shapes pop up if I were to take a marker and color in so,e of the boxes.

So still no examples of this common puzzle shape to post?

Bringing up the human rights of Palestinians doesn’t make you an anti semite. People are tired of you all trotting this out. We can acknowledge two things at the same time- can one of them be that you panhandle for sympathy and ring alarm bells for your safety while you actually lie to vilify an entire country on land you stole and gaslight about the danger in which you place the Palestinians???

+1 on bringing up the Palestinians. Doing so doesn’t make anybody an anti-Semite. I didn’t recognize the “handful” of other “anti-Semitic tropes” pp references but would welcome being shown.

Anti-semitism is real, as we see on a weekly basis, if not more, in this country. Pp’s kind of gaslighting about the plight of the Palestinians really distracts from the valid concerns.

"You all!"

Also guess what, you turd - American Jews are not Israel! Did you know that? We are Americans! I LOATHE the right wing Israeli government. Did you know that? Or did you think "you all" somehow represent Israel, are loyal to Israel, and are able to influence how that country treats Palestinians. Because guess what - we don't, we aren't, and we can't! But antisemites think otherwise.

DP. YOU are the one who brought up Palestine as an “anti-Semitic trope.” In light of what you just posted, can you explain the connection?

Ask some of your Jewish friends, if you have any. Honestly I think you are a troll, I think OP is a troll, I think the crossword was a stupid mistake but not intentional, and I am done here.

I’m not the pp who accused you of gaslighting. I have Jewish friends but I’m asking you, the poster who called mentioning the Palestinians an anti-Semitic trope. It seems like you don’t have an answer.

I looked at the author's twitter and IG. He is very political and he often makes crosswords in special shapes that have a meaning in themselves.

I think he's a bleeding heart lib who feels bad for the Palestinians and is mad at Israel. Just my opinion.

NYT should do one of those non apologies. "Sorry it made you feel bad - we regret your perception".

Dp. They don’t. Which is why they are “done here”. It was pretty obvious what that poster was doing and now they’re running away because someone rightly called them out.

Ahem, “portmanteau”.

+1 as the clue said it was a portmanteau word. And a perfectly good one at that.

The NYT puts out a TREMENDOUS volume of puzzles and multiply that by a factor of...a lot to get the number of clues they deal with. I think MANY puzzles could be accused of looking like a swastika in the right light so to speak but this is just kind of the nature of the construction. It needs to be a symmetrical patterned grid in a square. That is going to produce designs that can be close to swastikas. And with the sheer volume they put out, it is not surprising. As for boxcars being a clue like. This is the kind of thing that makes me question OTHER stories. There are usually like 100+ clues in an NYT sunday crossword and I'm confident that most puzzles have something you could stretch to be anti something. Have some callback or connotation.

I can't see any regular NYT puzzledoer thinking this is more than an unfortunate oversight TBH. And I am a person that FULLY agrees that antisemitism generally is hugely on the rise and that that is shocking and horrible and a crisis.
