Flying internationally

Not sure about stats but I traveled internationally this summer with my kid and we were fine.
Just try not to fret too much, I think fear actually increases the risk enjoy the country as much as possible. Travel won’t be too enjoyable for another 3 years or so, lol

Don't be stupid. There are waves of Delta. In continental Europe, June and early July were a Delta low, and now cases have spiked significantly.

I’m not headed to Europe anyway, so no worries there…

I am looking for actual risk statistics.

Thought so. You have a work opportunity and you’d like to piggyback some personal fun. I get it. But, you’re pregnant and the delta variant is no joke.

Think of it this way:

1. If you get really sick and suffer, or if something happens to the pregnancy, will you blame yourself or just shake it off? Will your husband blame you?

2. Try to wrap your head around the fact that this is just the first of many sacrifices good parents make for their kids.

Most people wouldn’t travel right now given where things are with delta, but you don’t want to hear that. So, just go.

If postponing is an option, then best to postpone. 2nd trimester travel during Covid and delta is far from ideal. If you cannot postpone, and must go, then no point in asking about it.

See about getting your booster early (talk to your OB, I know a couple pregnant women in health care who have gotten theirs before the eight month mark) fly direct, see if work will accommodate business or first class so you have more space (or purchase the seat next to you) and wear an N95.

The problem with delta is that it’s hitting pregnant women very hard. While most of the headlines are related to unvaccinated women, some 20% had been vaxxed. And, there seems to be a clotting issue affecting the placenta resulting in pregnancy loss.

Is your vacation really worth it?

She’s traveling for work idiot.

Feeling nervous about delta and my destination does have pretty high rates (honestly here might be worse though). It also has a poor health care system (though one I trust in normal times).

Should I postpone? I do need to go before I deliver, or should, so maybe now is best? I would be eligible for a booster perhaps in November if they’re allowed.

1) can you fly after your booster after your baby is born?

2) If not fly now. Find the most direct flight and get yourself some really good N95 or KN94 masks

Also can you share what country or what region you will be going to?

Sigh.

She posted at the bottom of the first page that her travel is not just for work…which is what I suspected since there’s literally no need for anyone to travel for work right now.

She either wants a baby moon or wants to visit friends/family. I get it, but again, it’s not necessary…and by her own words it’s not just work related.

(I won’t call you an idiot for missing her follow up post…because that just seems unkind.)

This. It’s no longer just about you anymore, OP.

I went to Italy a month ago at 20 weeks. I was fine; haven’t been sick in this entire pandemic by just being aware. One thing to consider is that business class was insanely empty. I’m talking 8 people out and 4 people on the return. Book direct if you can, business class if you can, n95, and sanitize everything you touch.

Are you at risk of blood clots? From what I can tell in my pregnancy group, people are getting Delta but recovering (when vaccinated), but there was one person who had to give herself 30 days of injections due to blood clot risk.

OP, I don’t have any real advice but I work in a travel heavy role and have been flying while pregnant, as have several pregnant colleagues. We’ve all been fine. Of course there is risk, but get other opinions outside of DCUM as well — this site is wildly risk averse.
