how to find mother's helper -- is that what I need?

You are going to have to pay WELL for this.

Otherwise you can sign her up for an afterschool program that has buses

No uber driver will do this for 15 dollars only. They have to sit in the pick up line and give up the flexibiliyt of being an uber driver.

Uber won’t pick up 10 yr olds. Let go of the idea that this will be easy and you will only pay for the time you “need.” You’re going to pay way more than you want for this.

This is why we have au pairs. She drops off, picks up, supervises till dinner, and then we get to go on dates because we have extra hours in her week.

All, OP here….thanks for all replies. We live in Md. DH works in NOVA and it would be a struggle for him to get her on time, but he would be home 20-30 minutes after she gets home so she wouldn’t be home for hours waiting on anything.

Not interested in a taxi or Uber. Really wish we had a friend or family member who could do this. Trying to work out a carpool with another family but they’re in the same boat we are.

School doesn’t have buses and the aftercare is VERY expensive. Prohibitively so. So, back to the sitter issue. I realize it will be hard to find and I will have to pay.

I would try to ask through the school if there is a SAHM with a kid in that school looking to make a few extra bucks.

If you try this there is a 99% chance the driver will eventually flake and your kid will be left crying at school.

No halfway decent sitter will be cheaper than group aftercare.

Sahms do not want to pick up another kid.

Your most reliable and safe option is to suck it up and pay for aftercare

Agree. This is the crap job someone takes while they’re looking for another job and flakes out on to go on interviews or when they just don’t feel like sitting in traffic

Obviously you have to offer pay.

I’m really curious how expensive the after care is. More than $500/week?

As a SAHM myself, I would not feel comfortable dropping a kid off at a house alone.

I just can’t picture a scenario where aftercare costs more than a reliable sitter who drives.

Op is there other aftercare like a taekwondo place?
