Section 8 prioritizes families, and for an elderly mentally ill white man, he will die before he gets housing.
Food stamps? Great just send them your current address. Heating assistance? Great tell us you’re utility provider. COOLING assistance? 99% that is not a thing (and I’m from Florida), all you get are cooling centers (ie fire hydrants and open homeless shelters).
He should have a VA pension maybe? Any social security? Assuming he gets maybe $500/month, he should be able to rent a room in a group house somewhere, though maybe that is no longer a thing after Airbnb.
But under no circumstances let him live with you.
