Try the CNBC one I suggest above, too. It’s quite good. |
McMillions is awesome, highly recommend
My young teen enjoyed Class Action Park, although there are more than a few sexual references that might not be appropriate for tweens I assume the art heist one you watched was This is a Robbery, and my young teen loved that one too (if not, watch that immediately) Perfect Bid is another good one |
If your kids like documentaries it's definitely worth getting the PBS passport app. My kid likes all the Ken Burns, especially baseball. |
NP here, thanks for the rec. Looks fantastic and I’m sure my tweens will love it. Plan to watch it with them tonight. My sister told me I had to watch the documentary about fungi on Netflix. The small bit that I’ve seen so far is really interesting. |
Assuming this is the same series they often air on the National Geographic Channel on repeat, we love this one too. It’ll get out attention with a cute animal in passing, then we always end up getting sucked unexpectedly into the storyline. Happened again last night when I should have been going to bed, but there was a fox whose surgery was causing heart problems, and they were trying to get a human defibrillator in time, and … well, I won’t spoiler it for you. ![]() A bonus is that I love how so many of the vets are female — I always feel like our zoo/vet shows sneak in the Competent Women Doing Science storylines that other media still too often lacks. |
We’ve enjoyed Dancing With the Birds and the Abstract series of art documentaries (the ones we’ve seen that particularly stand out were the photographer, line illustrator, type designer, and Scandinavian architecture/art installation guy). Both on Netflix.
I also really enjoyed a series of BBC documentaries on Africa, “Africa with Ade Adepitan”, but that ones harder to track down. Looks like Amazon Prime has it with a “99 cent for a month” trial subscription to BBC Now. And my husband has watched all the Planet Earth documentaries on Netflix (the ones with David Attenborough) about five times each. They’re all gorgeous and amazing. |
Hands on a Hard Body is iconic. About a yearly competition that pits twenty-four contestants against each other to see who can keep their hand on a pickup truck for the longest amount of time.
Fast, Cheap and Out of Control - about a robotics inventor, topiary artist, lion tamer, and a naked mole rat expert. Somehow it works. I loved the video version of This American Life (love the radio version too... there are lots that would be great for young listeners) |
My kids love this, too. |
The Eagle Huntress |
Rotten (series on Netflix) |
Stuntman on Disney Plus is really really good. There's no reason for it to be rated TV 14. |
The Dawn Wall. Great documentary about two rock climbers trying to climb the Dawn Wall at Yosemite. Amazing examples of team work and diligence.
I liked it much better than Free Solo (also good). |
My favorite documentary is The Fog of War. I think only certain HS kids would like it. |
Biggest Little Farm. Also ESPN 30 for 30 docs. We love Survive and Advance. |
Yes to this. |
